man, who would have thought that there is a discussion board dedicated to mattresses!
Love it, read all the tutorials, guides, faqs and related posts.
Excellent information is found here.
Lets get back to business:
me: 270lbs
partner:140lbs
currently sleeping on a 2007ish Simmons Beautyrest Palm Cove Plush (model M13484707435) something mattress.
also have an IKEA Sultan Finnvick (latex I believe) mattress in the house which is hard a rock but gets nice and comfy later on. However super later at night it becomes a heat scorcher…
upgrading the bed from queen to king and am now shopping for a new mattress.
Been reading various posts on reddit and other related websites until coming to a stop here.
Tried the “dump buyer in a national mattress store” approach just to see what different salespeople were pushing and what is out there.
Went to a Mattress Warehouse and laid on one of their mattress decision computer mats as well.
From being at the two stores so far it seems that sleeping on your stomach is bad which the wifey does sometimes. Both salespeople starting talking immediately about that “back issues in the future” topic.
One of the salespeople however made us put out hands below the lumber area to see how difficult it would be for our hands to slide underneath and also mentioned how there is a gap in certain beds below our knees… I assume that goes with the PPP rule mentioned here.
So after laying on some mattresses it seems that we really like some of the hybrid beds ala Serta iSeries Vantage or the tempurpedic beds with the breeze cooling gels. iSeries would have been 1685$ in King and the TP would be 3450$ both delivered.
Also looked at some Tuft&Needle reviews and a bunch of Amazon vendors: DreamFoam, Dynasty Mattress and Classic Brands among others.
Read a ton of reviews and opinions about the iseries:

Really liked (past tense) the mattress in the store but reading reviews about fat people (200lbs and over) with cheaper materials and then also the 1"foam rule seems to be ruling this one out now.
Reading about the weight issues it also brought back some memories with an older Sultan Latex Ikea mattress which had developed a deep impression after 4 years of single usage. This mattress had then been replaced with the Finnvick version which is currently the guest room mattress in the house.
Currently I am really overwhelmed with the selection and information found.
Would really like to try out a Tuft&Needle in person in my area before committing to buying it over the internet. Also looked at BK Bedding and DreamFoam which all seem to have nice options.
All the material descriptions of the foam density layers make sense but are overwhelming without having some sort of matrix to compare them against others.
Basically we are looking for a mattress that will last 6 years at least without issues, have some sort of cooling as I do get very hot when sleeping and maybe a hybrid since the top foam comfort layer has felt nice. Firm to semi firm due to my weight and within reason up to 2000$.
Also would like to find what we call a Lattenrost in Germany which are adjustable:
Somewhere here in the states.
Phoenix, what am I missing to help me make a sleeping decision?
I can link all the Amazon beds that were found to be very attractive money wise as well. Ranging from 300-1100$
