Howdy all! Recently been looking for a new mattress and have gone a little too far down the rabbit hole and feeling quite overwhelmed. My previous mattresses have been traditional coil/pillow top. I’m liking a lot about what I’ve been reading about latex, but I have no experience with it and am having trouble finding any local showrooms where I can try it out. Been reading through various review sites which all seem like advertising more than real reviews, tried looking through reddit and found more contradictions than useful information, and have now found my way here. This site seems like genuine information, so I figure I’ll give it a shot.
I’m 6’1" and around 290lbs. Losing weight and already 45lbs down, but unlikely to ever get below the 230-250 range based on my build. I’m a side sleeper that enjoys a soft feel, and have only recently been waking with a bit of mid to lower back pain which I attribute to the monstrous cavern that is now the center of my mattress. My shoulders are wider than my hips, and I tend to roll from one side to other throughout the night. I also tend to sleep hot. Current mattress is a queen beautyrest which is well past it’s lifespan. Looking for something that matches my body and will have some durability.
I’ve read through the guides here and think I’m starting to understand a little more about latex, but would really love to hear some expert advice or some firsthand experience from anyone with a similar profile. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
You are slightly heavier, but side sleeper. Im torn between Aireloom M1 Luxetop Firm, Aireloom Streamline Luxury Firm, and Tempurpedic Luxe Adapt Firm.
I say for you Aireloom M2 Luxetop Firm or Streamline Luxury Firm. Or maybe Aireloom M2 Luxetop Plush. If you want more softness, Aireloom has a luxury pad that can be added to any Aireloom bed.
Try Tempurpedic Luxe Adapt Firm also. Im probably getting that. The best judge is yourseld. Luxe Adapt Soft is nice for side sleepers. At your weight (mine too), Luxe Adapt Firm might give you a bit more support while still being comforming.
I.dont know much abouf latex, but the FloBeds VZone is totally adjustable.
My advice is stick with traditional. Latex unless VERY expensive sags/gets soft after some years. Got one with 10 year warranty and after about 5 it’s too soft and the warranty is useless as it recovers it’s height without load.
Analysis paralysis is so common! You’re not alone there. I see a few others have weighed in with their experiences.
How long has the Beautyrest served you? Innersprings are rarely a weak link/least likely to face sagging and other issues so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s been a while!
I’ve found that people with similar larger profiles prefer to do a quasi DIY where they buy a firm innerspring/traditional mattress and then put a latex or memory foam topper on it; this way if/when the foam no longer gives the comfort and support they’re seeking, it’s easiest to replace that topper instead of a whole mattress. 3 - 4" would be a general recommendation for a topper acting as a comfort layer for a side sleeper. Firmness would be relative to your preferences.
I really appreciate this and the other replies. Didn’t realize they were there as apparently I had to opt in to get reply notifications lol.
I hadn’t considered this option but was actually considering just buying a topper for my current mattress just to try out how I like the feel of latex in general since I’m having trouble even finding a local showroom that sells latex mattresses. I talked to Ken from Arizona Premium and he suggested looking for a company I may be able to find locally that is kind of a copycat of their products, and the closest one I found was over an hour away and appointment only. I really like the idea of potentially using a topped on a traditional coil mattress too, so if nothing else I think I’m going to get a topper and see if I like latex in general.
