Mattress update: This is a hellish process. After returning what I thought would be my dream mattress to Sleep EZ, I decided to try something other than latex. I ended up with a soft WindBeds. After nearly 2 months of turning it every 2 weeks as suggested, I’m now sleeping in the middle. I’m mostly a side sleeper, but this has me waking up on my back more often in order to relieve the pressure on my hips. Also, it’s crazy hot, too. When I wake up, I feel consider heat from the mattress even with the A/C and just a sheet. Whatever side is against the mattress is super warm while the side away from the mattress is chilled.

I tested several Naturpedic models, too. The EOS plush with the microcoils seemed comfortable, but that is just 20-30 minutes testing. I read a few discussions on here about it, but they seemed to have returned the mattresses. I plan to go back on Monday to try it again. This is a very frustrating process.

I’m not sure I can change my sleep position to back only at this point in my life. I’m not very big, but I’m very concerned about my hips and neck. Apparently, I need to avoid anything that is going to retain heat. I’m not convinced that latex is the way to go, but it seems that my experience with memory foam is worse.
I really didn’t want to spend >$2,000 given that I had to invest in an adjustable base.

Back to the drawing board, again.

Yikes!

You’ve been trying to work this out for quite a while, it seems! I know nothing helpful, sorry, but I wanted to wish you good luck - I hope this time around, you find what you need.

Actually, if you don’t mind a suggestion from someone who’s a total novice - I’ve gone through similar trial and error to find a pillow I could sleep on. One that didn’t sleep hot (memory foam’s out), supported my neck for side sleeping, but also allowed me to sleep on my stomach, and wasn’t so firm it triggered migraines. It couldn’t deflate under my head and leave me feeling like I was just laying flat on my mattress. I went through dozens, and kept failing to find something that worked. I now have two pillows I like and can rotate between. The absolute best one is the CozyPure BaaNoodle pillow. It’s a combination of wool and latex noodles (instead of a slab). They (and a few other companies) make toppers with those latex noodles. They’re very breathable, and plush without being squishy. And the wool just adds a lovely bit of loft and its own feel to the whole thing. I’ve been very tempted to buy a wool/latex noodle topper for my own not-so-great bed. If you end up settling on a firmer mattress and need a comfort boost, maybe a topper along those lines is a possible answer?

Good luck!

The baa-noodle pillow is a great pillow. I have one, although it was a good thing i purchased extra noodles, as at my weight and comfort, i needed that extra filling to give more of a firmer, more structured and supportive feel. At the time, i liked it so much, i bought a bag with 8lbs of noodles, and some wool batting and made a few extra pillows of my own.

The Oxygen-pillow was my next pillow, it is definitely more of a unique design and a step or two up in support. It really supports the head and neck superbly and may just be the best pillow of the bunch. Firm and supportive, while feeling soft and gentle against the head and neck.

It comes in different fits, so you would need to collaborate with @EuropeanSleep to get the correct firmness and height.

Just a couple of thoughts on pillows.

Thanks, but I’m shopping for a mattress, not a pillow. I think they were just using their pillow experience as an example.

Thank you. I appreciate you sharing your experience and understand where you are coming from. Thanks again!

Nikki,

I’m still searching… I started looking at the The Sparrow Signature by nest that you mentioned here. After the 4 mattresses that I’ve tried, I was thinking I should stick with their plush option. However, when I called to speak with one of their reps, I explained my situation and he recommended their luxury firm option. I’m confused, so I thought I’d see what you think.
Here’s what I’ve tried:

  1. Plush Beds Botanical Bliss Medium 9", way too firm even with their soft topper. Hip pain increased & developed slight lower back pain.
  2. Leesa Legend 12", again way too firm. Added an old 3" memory foam topper as a band-aid until the next option.
  3. Still convince that latex was best, I ordered from Sleep EZ after talking to their great rep, Rodger. Tried various configurations but couldn’t get comfortable, and hip pain was still a variable. Although, I was one of the 3-5% who returned their mattress, their mattresses seem to be very well made and I was very disappointed. I spoke with 4 reps at Sleep EZ and each one was knowledgeable, professional, very kind, and not one hard sell from any of them. Truly a great company to work with.
  4. Ended up with a Soft Wink mattress. It sleeps hot and doesn’t feel soft. I’m now sleeping in the middle and can’t sleep on my side for long. I didn’t fully understand what it means to sleep hot until this experience. I have the a/c set at what should be a very comfortable sleeping temperature, only use a sheet, yet whatever side of me is touching the mattress gets very hot while the rest of me is cold.
Am I wrong about choosing their plush option? I know it’s very subjective, but I’m lost at this point. TIA!
