Not sure I’m doing something wrong, but I can’t quite figure out how to create a new post topic.
I wanted to post the following:
question about wool puddle pads.
Comparing Foam Orders topper (at $130) and Holy Lamb’s (at $215) wondering if anyone has any experience with the two. Is the HL’s worth the significant price difference?
I am not entirely sure which size are you looking at for your pad, but based on the price you provided I am guessing you are considering a full size. While I haven’t done much research into wool puddle pads, there are differences between them in the amount of wool content and the thickness. The Foam Orders’ puddle pad is 1/4" thick weighing 1.1lb for a full size while Holy Lamb’s puddle pad is weighing 3.1lb for a full size. Holy Lamb Organics manufactures their own pads while Foam Order’s puddle pads are manufactured by Shepherd’s Dream.
Generally speaking the wool in the puddle pads is woven very tightly using a needle punch process that compresses the fibers together or felted resulting in a water-repellent surface which acts as a moisture barrier and protects against spills, accidents or body moisture from reaching the mattress. Wool puddle pads are used as a natural alternative to synthetic, plastic, or vinyl mattress protectors and while they are not 100% waterproof more wool (for comparable thicknesses) would be more compact and increase the protection. Puddle pads usually have a serge stitch around the edges to prevent fraying when washed and some are finished with elastic on the corners to keep it in place while others are kept in place by the fitted sheet only (Foam Order default is without elastic, but they can add it to the corners at no extra charge).
It may be a good idea to talk with the retailer or manufacturer about how their product compares to others in terms of the type of wool they use, the method of construction, the thickness of the pad, how it “feels” and affects the feel of the mattress in general and how it may compare to other options you have available because there is a considerable range of options and prices for products that on the surface appear to be similar and are not easy to differentiate based on a basic description.
Hopefully, some of the members here that have used the wool puddle pad you are considering will see this thread and share their thoughts and feedback about the ones they purchased.
