Pillow not as firm at home

I bought a visco pillow that seemed quite firm in the store and I thought it will support my head and neck properly. At home, I opened the box (of the exact same model) and let the pillow expand for over a week (even though it only needs a few hours). However, when I lied on it, it felt much softer. If the one in the store was 100%, I feel what I bought is around 30% firm. How could this be and what should I do?

Hi itisme,

They typical problem is most stores keep the temperature fairly cold, which makes the viscoelastic memory foam become firm. Once your head hits that pillow, the heat transfers to the visco foam and softens it up.

Depending on the Visco foam pillow you purchased (I am assuming this is not the viscosoft brand pillow and simply a viscoelastic foam pillow.

The other thing is, look at the law label. It is possible that if the pillow was manufactured a while ago, it may have deteriorated a bit over time.

If you like a memory foam pillow that is a bit firmer, you might take a look at the Malouf Dough Pillow (not the activedough, that one is softer), it is a memory foam pillow with qualities that of memory foam and latex. Of course there is the Tempurpedic pillows. I am not a big fan of Tempurpedic Mattresses, as I believe Tempflow is a better version in a mattress, but I do like tempurpedic pillows.

Is there any chance it will become more firm with time?
I called the store and they offered that I’ll exchange it with the one at display at the store. Should I do that?

No, chances are it will remain at the current firmness and get softer. Unless you put it in the fridge, it will get firm in there. But if they are offering the opportunity to exchange it, I would do so. If that one is not firm, then it is the consistency in producing the product.

No, once you take it out and you rest your head on it, the skin temperature will equalize the pillow and will likely be as soft
