Hi oceanmd,

Unfortunately neither of these mattresses provides enough information to make any meaningful assessments about either of them but I would certainly avoid the Sealy.

What you would need to know to make any meaningful assessments of either mattress (and you likely won’t be able to find this out about mattress 2 from Sealy because they don’t provide it although you may with the other one) is the quality or density of all the memory foam and polyfoam layers in the mattress. A mattress is only as good as the quality of the materials in it and the “weak link” of most mattresses is in the upper foam layers. Without knowing this there is no way to tell its quality or estimate its durability or any “weak link” it may have or to make meaningful comparisons with other mattresses. It’s the job of a retailer or your salesperson to provide this to you.

When you are looking for a new mattress, the first place I would start is post #1 here which will give you all the basic information you need to make good choices and it will also help you know what to avoid (such as the major brands) and what to focus on (smaller independent manufacturers that disclose what is in their mattresses and are sold either factory direct or through better sleep shops).

The first “rule” is to make sure you find out all the information you need about all the components and layers in a mattress before you buy it.
