Please help me find foam with these specific properties (if it make any sence)

So here is the situation.

About 6 months ago I bought a gel foam mattress from woot for my daughters bed. Bought it there because it was less than 200$ and we just switched from day bed to full sized bed. Didnt make sense to pay 1k for a mattress.

Well, Turns out this is the most comfortable mattress I have EVER slept in!!

Problem is, if you know anything about woot, many times they refuse to tell you who the manufacture is or anthying like that.

Well, from reading the tag, I was able to figure out that it was made by ““future foam”” I contacted them and was told that the tag would mean nothing, but a picture of the cover would.

I did accordingly and was told than another name (they dont sell to public) was the exact same thing. I ordered it for 800$ without thinking twice.

Well, I got it and, although visually the layers look pretty much the same, they feel very different.

I dont know if this makes any sense, but this is how I would best describe the properties of the original mattress:

When you lay on it, for a split second seems your laying on an egg shell, then it slow collapses and conforms to your body. Feels great. I dont know if this makes sense, but if anyone has used impression foam, it has that feel… It makes no noise, but the sensation says it would. Almost a “Crinkling” sensation when you lay on it.

I can honestly say that I feel the best Ive felt in 20 years when I sleep on it.

Does this make sense? if so, what is a better way to describe this foam? anyone know where I could find something similar" . If I know the lingo, maybe I could go somewhere and try it before spending more money on another mattress!‘’

Ive seen words like “collapsible column”", but I dont know if thats it, it just seems it would be bc of the sensation above described.

Ive search for a topper of mattress with that term, but have found nothing.

Any help, or direction where to turn, would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hi justakin,

Unfortunately you are on a very difficult quest and outside of actually trying another mattress that “feels” similar based on your own experience the only way to predict whether another mattress would “feel” the same is by knowing all the specific details of all the layers and components in the mattress you purchased and then choosing another mattress that had exactly the same layers and components (including the cover).

There is more about the different ways that one mattress can “match” another one in post #9 here but trying to “match” a mattress based on more subjective perceptions would be a lot like trying to match a recipe based on very general descriptions like “it was a little bit salty and had a crispness that I liked and had a smooth but chewy texture” without knowing any of the specifics of what was in the recipe and would be nearly impossible without a lot of luck.

If Future foam wasn’t able to “match” the mattress that you purchased then it’s unlikely that anyone else could either without much more specific details about the materials and components in the mattress you purchased. Based on your description it’s quite likely that the top layer was some type of gel memory foam but there are so many types of gel memory foams that each have different properties and because all the layers and components in a mattress will affect how the mattress “as a whole” feels and performs that this by itself wouldn’t be enough to be able to “match” the mattress.

You are probably referring to buckling column gel. You can read more about this type of material in this article and in post #2 here and post #2 here and the posts and topics they link to but it’s very unlikely that this is what was in your mattress or any mattress in this budget range.
