Please help - need to choose between two hybrid mattresses this week

Hello everyone.

Please help me with the decision between two matresses. After years on outdated matress followed by temporary solution (cheap and thin foam matress) I decided to invest in good one.

I did some shallow research about materials and hit few stores which were recommended to me. After initial hesitation (feeling being absorbed inside memory foam mattress) I choose hybrid memory foam mattress (4 layers memory foam and polyfoam).
Description of mattress and short video for ilustration from manufactor (its in czech but you will see the layers of materials and how mattress reacts when person lies down on it)

Construction in 4 layers - XDURA - foam with excellent thermoregulation, 2 memory and 1 flexible foam Curemfoam ™:

  1. Contour XDURA® XD 58 kg / m3; 3.62 lbs / cubic foot
Foam that excels in excellent durability, breathability and thermoregulation. Its comfort has no competition.
  2. Super Soft VISCO 50 kg / m3; 3 lbs / cubic foot
Curemfoam extra soft memory foam brings absolute comfort and relaxes tense muscle tone.
  3. Super Volume VISCO 85 kg / m3; 5.3 lbs / cubic foot
Memory foam with antibacterial properties Curemfoam ™ with high volume. It will give your body a feeling of weightlessness, relief, but also support.
  4. Base Master CUREMFOAM ™
Orthopedic core with 7 anatomical zones, which is airy, naturally rigid, but also provides rebound flexibility. Curem-Core profiling that intelligently changes stiffness based on load.

I expected my sleep would improve and it did (improved neck pain and I dont feel like sleeping on concerete anymore), however its still not perfect (I also experience stuffed nose during the nights which has nothing to do with mattress but affected my sleep). Mattress did get much softer than it was in the store with low response after changing positions. Sometimes I would wake up feeling that I am in hollow just in the middle of mattress.

After being unsatisfied with my purchase I hit the store again for exchange (in 45 days exchange period) and my favourite is now hybrid latex mattress (4 layer latex and polyfoam).
Again description and short video for ilustration:

3 cm Gel foam S-GT 44 kg / m3; 2.8 lbs / cubic foot
GelTouch - perfectly breathable velvet latex-gel foam with thermoregulation, which reduces sweating and pressure on the body.
5 cm LATEX C9 65 kg / m3; 4 lbs / cubic foot
2nd thermoregulatory stage - airy and flexible latex with antibacterial properties.
Base:
HYBRID HY 38 kg / m3; 2.4 lbs / cubic foot
medium-rigid hybrid foam that is extra elastic and adjusts body pressure on the mattress.
The SpineProtector anatomical system (spreading anatomical zones for the shoulders and pelvis and spine support) is stored in this layer.
HR-XF 50 kg / m3; 3 lbs / cubic foot
supports the body, a strong and at the same time flexible layer facilitates rotation.

And now there is a catch – I can use exchange only once and I have to decide this week if I keep hybrid memory foam or replace to hybrid latex one. My sleep even more improved after my nose got better. But I still have sometimes meh feeling about memory foam mattress. In shop latex one feels pretty good, but of course – its different than at home. Soft / firm both are simillar, latex with better response, bit bouncy you might say.

So what would you do? Keep hybrid memory foam where I can say I sleep pretty well after getting used to it or replace it for hybrid latex polyfoam mattress which feels good in shop but I havent sleep on it. I will try latex hybrid tommorow in shop again but its pretty hard to choose in limited time in shop. I am 35 year old male, 165 lbs.

TL;DR – have to decide this week if I keep memory foam mattress or change to latex one. Sleep in memory foam is quite good but for money I was hoping for better. Dont want to do mistake but i am in time pressure (worst for choosing mattress). Both are top quality mattress in regard of materials.

Thank you!

Hey oatergue,

Welcome to The Mattress Underground  ! Thanks for your question and my apologies for the delayed response as the forum has been quite active this week!

Thanks for the excellently crafted post details of YouTube links, product specs, and sleep observations; good job on your research! I’ve left all of those details in your original post for brevity purposes, as this is now the end of the week for making a decision and you may have taken action by now. Have you already chosen which mattress you’ll go with? The materials and constructions that you’ve listed for both are well within the suggested durability guidelines.

Happy to hear that your stuffed nose situation is better  . I’m curious about your choosing between a memory foam hybrid and a latex hybrid mattress as they are complete opposites in their response. feel As you have likely realized from your experience on the memory foam hybrid, its surface creates a “sinking into” the mattress feel and forms a cradle around you as it warms to your body’s temperature. Memory foam is a slow response foam and is well known for its pressure relieving qualities and low transfer of motion. It’s also described by some as having a “dead” feel, and often preferred by those who do not move around much during their sleep.

Latex foam’s lively, responsive nature provides an uplifting feeling of “sleeping on” the mattress. “Bouncy” as you say is a good description of how it reacts by pushing back to your body’s different recessed areas. Those who enjoy the sensation of “floating” on the mattress’s surface rather than being cradled by it will prefer latex as a comfort material.

Unfortunately, as only you can “feel” what you feel on a mattress, this decision is up to you. Granted, making the choice based on a limited-time test in a showroom is a difficult one but at least you’ll have some point of reference for comparison with your memory foam hybrid. How did you find the latex hybrid mattress to feel? Looking forward to hearing how things went with your decision and hope all turns out well for better sleep  .

Sensei

Hello Sensei,
thank you for your warm welcome and extensive answer. As time went by and I was getting more used to memory foam hybrid mattress and after another visit in the showroom I have decided to keep memory foam hybird one. I did Test for Pressure Relief and Test for Support compressed to one visit, and decided that memory foam still feels better than bouncy latex. And according to sales person my spine and my body pointy parts were best alligned on memory foam as well.

I think it was because my breathing got better with improved nose and also I was getting used more to my mattress, so 4-6 weeks might be the optimum time for mattress adaptation. I am quite curious how other people feel about that - how long does it usually take to feel mattress as “yours”?

However there are still times when I feel immersed in mattress but its not bothering. I am looking forward to lay in every evening now so I guess thats the feel we are aiming to

Thanks for making tough decision about mattress easier with this forum.

Hey oatergue,

Thanks for your reply and updates  !

Good job on your showroom visits and mattress testing, oatergue. Congrats too that you have settled on keeping your hybrid memory foam mattress! Glad to hear that the sales person helped you assess your spinal alignment as well as decide that memory foam was the better fit for your preference of a “less bouncy” feel.

I totally agree here and so do the majority of mattress manufacturers. As your body will need a minimum of 30-45 days to adjust to a new mattress’s comfort and support feel, a minimum 30 day sleep trial is generally required before an exchange or return is accepted. I would venture to say that within 4-6 weeks of delivery, most people are either committed to their new mattress or know that it’s time to move on. I am happy to learn that your nose continues to improve; better breathing leads to better sleep for sure.

In time, you will get used to memory foam’s immersing “sinking into” feel; as you say that you’re “looking forward to it every evening”, it sounds as though you enjoy it’s unique cradling properties.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know your new mattress a little better and for sharing your experience and research with the forum. If you have time, drop in with future updates and let us know how things go. Good luck oatergue and hope your sleep quality continues to improve  .
