Hi there,
About a year ago I made a DIY latex mattress with multiple components. I’m a side and back sleeper so it has been a bit difficult to balance softness and firmness.
If it’s soft side sleeping works well but back sleeping (lower back) suffers. If it’s too firm then side sleeping doesn’t work well and lower back is happy.
I recently visited some relatives and really loved the bed I slept in. It was a Tuft and Needle essential. I could tell that the thing that I was liking about it was the top plush layer. They do sell a topper version of the top layer. Now, I’m not a fan of memory foam (not sure if this foam is memory foam, or if there’s a difference) as I’ve had bad experiences with degradation and heat in the past. So I wanted to ask y’all for opinions on plush layers. I want to add a plush layer to fill in the gaps so I can use firmer layers and then let the plush do its job.
My setup is as follows, bottom to top:
- 6" medium latex core from Arizona (#30)
- I have several 2" layers that I play around with, usually using 2 of them:
- 2" soft talalay latex from Arizona (#20-24)
- 2" super-soft talalay latex from Arizona (#15-19)
- 2" medium dunlop latex from SleepOnLatex
- No ILD but IFD from their website: 4.7 lbs/ft³; 150 N (34 lbf) 25% IFD; 340 N (76 lbf) 65% IFD
- 10" Arizona bamboo/wool mattress cover
I haven’t looked much into this yet aside of reading some posts here and going down post links.
- Tuft and Needle adaptive foam topper
- As I said, I liked the feel but I’m not a fan of foam (not sure if the same as memory foam).
- Lanoodle topper from CozyPure
- I have a noodle pillow and love it, so interested in this one.
Thanks so much in advanced!
