Hi. I have a Leesa Original all-foam mattress. I like the low profile design and height of it and am happy with the quality. I’m a light-average weight side sleeper and find it supportive and almost soft enough when uncovered, but wish it had a bit more of a plush, cradling feel. Especially once I put a mattress protector and sheets on it loses comfort.
Can you recommend something similar in quality and price with a bit more plushness, even with a mattress protector on top?
I’m open to other alternatives and combinations, but I do really like the simplicity of the current set up. I need to use a protector for my pets.
(Considering the Helix Sunset or Nolah Original with pillow top)
If you’re looking to dial in a bit more plushness while keeping the supportive feel you like from your Leesa Original, the Bear Pro Hybrid, Nolah Original, and Helix Sunset are all strong options worth considering.
The Bear Pro Hybrid strikes a nice balance between contouring comfort and support. Its foam comfort layers combined with responsive coils give you a slightly plusher, more cushioning feel than your Leesa, without stepping into an overly soft mattress. For many light to average weight side sleepers, this results in a cozy, pressure relieving feel that still maintains good alignment through the hips and shoulders, especially once you add a protector and sheets.
The Nolah Original is another solid all foam option that leans a touch softer and more contouring than many traditional foam beds. Its pressure relieving foam is designed to cradle your body more through the shoulders and hips, which can help if your current mattress feels just a bit too flat once covered. The Helix Sunset is noticeably softer overall while still being supportive, and it can feel very comfortable for side sleeping. The main thing to keep in mind is that if the Sunset ends up feeling too soft, there is no practical way to make it firmer. That is why the Bear Pro Hybrid often makes the most logical next step, since it gives you added plushness without locking you into a softness level you might find too soft as it softens over time. Unless you choose the Sunset Elite, or any of the Helix Elite’s for that matter. They have a zippered comfort layer that allows you to swap the layer, now or in the future, if it not satisfy your comfort preference.
Depending on your height, weight, and possibly age group, other mattresses such as the Glacier Sleep Apex, Titan Plus Elite, and Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid with the cloud top option might also be worth considering. All three offer a good balance of support and very cushy comfort layers that still provide a “sleep on the bed” feel rather than a “sleep in the bed” sensation, with a gentle cradling comfort layer. I included the Titan Plus Elite, despite it being designated as a plus sized mattress, as the support is amazing, but the comfort layer remains cool to sleep on due to the microcoil layer. The only downside is that these are slighter taller mattresses, which may conflict with what you are looking for.
Great. Based on this I am deciding between the Nolah Original and Nolah Signature all foam. I see some conflicting information online about whether the Signature is actually better than the Original for my needs. Some places say it’s softer, others say it’s really firm. Do you have a rec between the two?
(I’m 155lb/5’11 and mainly looking for a bit more cushioning on my hips and shoulders.)
I remember doing the short 10min test on them back in October. Both felt soft to me, but I am 6’ 220. In your situation, I think the Signature will likely win you over. I like the thicker support layer and slightly better pressure relief. It is very close call. You should speak with @yawnder as he sells these and can give you potential customer feed back. He has likely done a long test on it too as he tends to test everything.
Ultimately, you need to get one in your home and trial this within your own environment. That is the best test of all. Best educated guess between the two, is the Signature.
