Pocket coil vs dunlop core firmness

Hello again, Mattress Underground.
Back in 2013 I got advice from this site to put together an all-Latex bed. It had a Dunlop core rated “medium” and maybe 2" worth of Talalay toppers on top.
After all these years, I decided that I prefer the feel of a “normal” bed which has the characteristics that you can sit at the edge, or walk across it, and there isn’t a sensation of sinking in.
Not counting the topping layer, my current bed if I do these things, it totally feels like bottoming out and hitting the base underneath.
So my question is which is firmer, a pocket coil system like the Caliber Edge from Leggett, or a rated “firm” Dunlop core with holes in it?
It looks like the Leggett rates ILD in some different metric, so hard to compare. (And yes, I know that springs vs foam have different characteristics, but here I’m just referring to the two sagging tests I mentioned earlier.)
It was also recommended that I could get some solid 40ILD dunlop, although that is twice the price of the coils.
Also, which would be more sag-resistant over the long term?
Thanks

If you get a 40-45 ILD dunlop layer it will be very firm and will be quite fine to sit on the edge of it but the issue is it’s a sheet so that goes across the entire bed. I’m not sure if you need this level of support but certainly something to consider. Pocket coil springs do provide a very defined edge (familiar to most people) and in terms of longevity they are probably the best although they do tend to deform the upper comfort layers somewhat versus a sheet of latex foam which provides fairly uniform pressure. I would probably rate the edge support in this order: springs > stiff polyfoam > latex > memory foam but that’s just from my own experience with them (subjective). Just make sure if you get a spring setup that you chose one that has a defined edge support so you get the feel you’re looking for.

Are you supposed to put something above the springs so the coils don’t dig into the latex?

You can use batting over the coils but it can restrict coil movement and the effect of point pressure on the comfort layer is much worse with poly foam than it is with latex.
