I have a problem that my pelvic area sinks in too much, so I bought a king size 6in 3 zone mattress core. The sides are 32ild and the middle is 35ild. I also purchased a king size 2in 24ild mattress topper to put on top on the core and a king size Restora talalay latex pillow by Rejuvenite. I want to make my latex experience more comfortable by using a progressive construction.
I was thinking of buying a 2in 28ild topper and a 2in 18ild to add to my mattress. What do you think of 3zone 6in core, then 2in 28ild, followed by 2in 24ild, and finally 2in 18ild on top? Or do you think I should do 3zone 6in core, then 3in 28ild, followed by 2in 24ild, and finally 1in 18ild on top? Right now I am sleeping on the 3zone 6in core, an individual 2in 32ild that I already owned, and then the 2in 24ild folded in half to make a 4in individual.
While I am sleeping comfortably on my back and my setup feels real nice, I am having trouble sleeping on my side (which is how I really want to sleep). I think the king size 2in 24ild is great and comfortable, especially folded to make an individual 4in 24ild. However, it is still a little too firm to sleep on my side; my shoulder does not sink in enough. What do you think I should do? After years of very uncomfortable sleep and after many mattress purchases I think I am close to what I think will be a very comfortable sleep.
Hi Alien9292,
I don’t have enough information about you to make a particularly educated guess and theory can often be very different from actual “real life” experience so trial and error can often be the “rule” when you are experimenting with different combinations but I would tend to make one change at a time and then make any further changes or additions based on your experience on the previous combination.
Your zoning is fairly subtle and isn’t much different from the normal variations in a Dunlop core but it would have some effect in the right direction (although more layers on top of it could reduce its effect to some degree).
I also don’t know what you are using over the latex (or as a cover for your mattress) which could also make a difference in how well the latex adapts to your body shape.
Based on the information you’ve provided though I would probably start with the 2" of 18 ILD latex (although you didn’t mention what type of latex you are considering so that could also make a difference as well and I’m assuming that the ILD is accurate which isn’t always the case) and then decide on any further changes based on your sleeping experience.
