Today because I resized my Nest and Wild Hybrid from a queen into a twin xl, I decided to test only the 14.75g coil and the 15.5g coil with and without the quadmini to help people here who have been curious about what setup to pick for their weight. Granted the coil in the nest and wild is an 880ct 15.5g while the coil offered on pocketspringstore is 1005, so a little softer but I take that into account.
My build is 6’0" 210lbs or a 28 BMI. I have a heavy butt and legs and fairly heavy back, chest and shoulders.
My favorite top layer of foam is 2" of 14ild energex so that’s what I used.
The 14.75g on its own is firm. I would only recommend that for someone who is 36+ BMI. It feels a little softer than the floor.
The 14.75g with the quadmini, to me feels great. You get the 2" of super soft foam on top for pressure relief, and the quadmini combined with the base coil feels similar in firmness to the 15.5g on its own, but with more exacting and conforming support.
To describe how the quadmini feels, it’s 1800 springs in a queen size. So imagine all those mini coils, except because they have depth they actually conform and cradle your body. Kind of like a spring version of the purple grid.
I’ve seen a post where someone said the quadmini made their 15.5g build firmer, and I’ll say it does not. I would describe it as a 3" 27ild firmness comfort layer. It does add softness to the build.
15.5g with the quadmini there was a lot of sinkage and I do not believe the firmer 1005ct model would modify the sinkage I experienced from the 880 model well enough to justify it for someone with my stats or heavier unless you like a LOT of conformity and sinkage.
If someone were to get the 14.75g with the quadmini and it ended up being a little too firm, all that would be needed is an inch of super soft foam between the springs to soften the feel, similar to engineered sleep with their duo base.
Ultimately my favorite setup is the 14.75g base with quadmini. If I were to pick only a base spring and place foam on top of it, I would pick the 15.5.
If you want to use the quadmini with the 15.5g base I think it’d be best for a BMI range of up to 26. Although my 100lb girlfriend loves the 14.75g quadmini setup.
I know this is long winded but I hope it helps.
