Questions about my new Tuft & Needle mattress

Hi all., longtime lurker and new T&N mattress owner here with a few questions about the mattress now sitting in my bedroom. I opened the box and set up the mattress this past Friday but haven’t slept on it yet because my wife wants to wait until the odor goes away. Three nights in it’s still kind of smelly but I know from reading here that this is not unexpected and we have our old bed in the guest bedroom to stay on until she’s comfortable that enough of the fumes have dissipated. I did buy one of the mattress protectors recommended by the Tuft & Needle website - this one here Amazon.com and am wondering if I put it on the mattress now will it greatly lengthen how long it takes for the smell to go away? I want to start trying out the mattress even if wife isn’t ready yet, but need a mattress protector on it because of our dog.

But I’m also posting this because of a potentially bigger concern. How big a deal is this dent in the front corner of the mattress? See pic. I saw it the day it arrived, but figured it’d go away as the mattress settled in. As the pic taken today shows, the dent is still there. Thoughts?

Hi Port Land,

Congratulations on your new mattress

As you probably know the smell isn’t harmful but if you are sleeping on the mattress I would use the mattress protector which should only add a very little amount of time until the mattress “airs out” and you can also leave the mattress uncovered or at least unmade during the day to help it air out a little faster as well.

The dent shouldn’t affect how you sleep on the mattress but it also shouldn’t be there. If it hasn’t gone away and regained its shape after the first few days then I would call them and send them a picture to ask for their suggestions and probably replace it.
