I’ve been in the mattress industry for about 13 years. For the past 8 years, I’ve owned two mattress companies in Colorado which retail and wholesale custom mattresses.
While I’m a new member to your mattress forum, I’ve been reading your threads going back to around 2011. This forum is not only an amazing resource for consumers, but it’s very educational for mattress manufacturers and mattress retailers as well. It’s very difficult to find unbiased information on the mattress industry and your mattress forum really hits it out of the ball park.
There are some really great mattresses and mattress companies out there but it’s really difficult to sift through all the marketing mumbo jumbo and know if you’re getting a well made product at a fair price.
While I consider myself a mattress expert (I’ve been published in several magazine in articles about mattresses and sleep), I always list your website as a reference for family and friends who are in the market for a mattress.
In one of your recent posts, you talked about a major mattress/furniture retailer in the north east (whom I won’t mention) who imports Chinese memory foam mattresses. You had called several of their retails stores and also their corporate head quarters (accounting dept) and none of them knew anything about the mattresses they sold.
Hearing you go through that was pretty appalling. When most of your own customers know more about mattresses than your sales team, that’s a pretty big problem. Unfortunately, this is something I come across a lot doing my own mystery shopping. Especially with the larger mattress chains. It seems like they just push their new sales reps out on to the floor and say “good luck!”
Our own employees go through months of training and by the end, they are very well versed in topics and our mattress specs. They know all about foam density, IFD/ILD, 1633, MVSS302, the foams we use, how they’re glued, how the covers are sewn, how they’re roll packed. Every step of our manufacturing process.
Anyways. Keep up the good work! You’re really kicking butt on here!
