Hello, I’m hoping someone can help us. We have bought several mattresses in search of one that doesn’t hurt me. We had one that we loved but had just developed a hole in the middle so we didn’t think it be a big deal to get a new one. Boy was I wrong. I’m wishing we didn’t let them take away our old mattress. We started with a latex mattress. I’m a side sleeper and it felt like my hips sank in too much and really hurt. Even though I only weigh 115 lbs so have no idea why. I couldn’t sleep on it more than an hour. We traded it in for medium innerspring mattress without a pillow top. It caused so much pressure point pain I started having sciatica down my leg. No bounce whatsoever. Felt like stuck in it. So then bought a Sealy innerspring soft pillow top performance mattress. Had absolutely no bounce to it and hard. And also that stuck in feeling with no bounce. Have no idea how they’re calling this a plush mattress? what is the deal with mattresses these days? Is it because they’re making them all individual coils are encased coils? Why do mattresses not have any bounce to them anymore? Weve been sleeping in the guest bedroom for months on a 15 year old mattress comfortably, not having any idea what we should do next. What has changed with mattresses in the last 15 years? I’m literally scared to have another mattress delivered in fear it will be ANOTHER one we hate. Please help!
Check out Winkbeds.com; saves me! I finally have a mattress that supports my hips and shoulders and lower back while also giving me pressure relief in my shoulders. I got the MemoryLux all foam Firm; not hot and super comfortable. You do not sink in too much. They have more bouncy hybrid models too.

Not sure I’m following you, Ncharl: is the latex mattress the first one that you “loved but developed a hole in the middle” or what you replaced the first one with? If it is in fact the replacement mattress, what brand/ type mattress was the one that you loved? I’d have to know some details on the latex mattress’s construction before commenting on what your “hips sinking in too much” discomfort may have been caused by; again, what brand/ model did you purchase?
Sorry to hear of your sciatica problems, definitely an uncomfortable and frustrating condition; pressure point pain is a trigger for a myriad of sleep-related issues. Looking at your Sealy Performance mattress, their web site specs mention a reinforced center zone support, most likely contributing to the firmness you were feeling. I don’t find it in your post but just curious, what is your partner’s BMI/ preferred sleeping position?
There are a number of Phoenix’s articles that you may find useful for better understanding mattresses such as “Finding Your Perfect Mattress”,“Different Types or Categories of a Mattress”, “The Basic Functions of a Mattress”, and"Mattress Specifications You Need to Know". A review of these will give you a good process of what to look for in a mattress in regards to construction, comfort, preferences and also help you better utilize the forum as a data base for your research .
Thanks,
Sensei
My husband can sleep on a rock and be happy, as long as it’s not memory foam he’s fine. Just wants me to find something I’m not miserable on. The latex we got was not good. Our other mattress was an old school innerspring Pillowtop that we wish we hadn’t gotten rid of. The latex was a Brooklyn Bedding Bloom. And I felt my hips sank into too much. We want the feel of an old school innerspring, no memory foam we both hate the sink in feel and w joint issues isn’t good. Need good response. Thanks for your suggestions. Just really frustrated that mattress buying has now become so difficult. I’m assuming bc now memory foam is put into it all, which we both dislike.
