I’ve got a double sided 10" plush internal coil mattress Full XL. A spring coil broke in it a few years ago and it’s got deep body impressions as I have to lay in it all of the time. Looks like the top board of the box spring had flex in it causing the internal part of the mattress to break in a spot. I’ve got the mattress flipped around right now and wood boards underneath the mattress. But I’ll have to get it replaced under warranty some time down the road and probably go with a shorter box spring and put like a 4" thick latex topper on it in order to hopefully not get body impressions. I’d probably get the replacement mattress in an extra firm for base support. I haven’t done the math yet on this as far as say if the box spring was 4" shorter then I’d get a 4" thick topper.
But anyways, I was looking at getting like a 2" thick inexpensive mattress topper to get me by for a while as I can feel the springs. Until I can get around to messing with getting the mattress replaced under warranty. Any recommendations? I was looking at some latex, but the cheapest I could find was $160 Dunlop Full XL medium from latexmattressfactory.com
I don’t know if maybe there is a latex blend or something toppers that are cheaper that might work to get me by for a while? I was thinking 2" medium.
Sorry to hear about your mattress debacle. Do definitely get to exchanging that mattress sooner than later, as a topper will help with not feeling the springs but won’t remedy any sinking or sagging and you could start to experience pain when sleeping on the mattress. A quality mattress that is appropriate for your sleeping positions and adheres to the Durability Guidelines shouldn’t have body impressions for many, many years…if ever.
With regards to toppers, Latex Mattress Factory has a 2" Dunlop topper for $129 in Full size, and Sleep On Latex has one for $99. You may wish to look into those to see if either is ultimately the right fit for you.

Thanks. I have Full XL. It looks like it comes topper is $160 if a medium is selected. For a mattress topper of latex, is it recommended the top layer to go with soft or medium? I was thinking of medium as I assumed that soft may compress too easily and I’d still feel the springs?
The mattress I went with was a flippable 10" spring mattress. I assume there aren’t any spring mattresses that won’t develop body impressions? It seems like to me that latex mattresses are the only ones that generally don’t develop body impressions. But the reason why I’ve waited to get it replaced via warranty was I planned on waiting towards the end of the warranty just so I get more use out of it. They had something like 3 price levels and I got the mattress in the middle price level.
The mattress I have is a “plush”, but on the warranty replacement, I was thinking of getting an extra firm and having them make the box spring shallower and then putting on something like a 4" latex topper (Haven’t done the math yet on their shallow box spring). Has anyone here done that? I went with a flippable spring mattress at the time because I couldn’t afford a fancy latex mattress, and I had thought a flippable mattress would last longer than the say Sealy nonflippable mattresses.
Yes! There have been a number of other members who’ve gone the topper + firm mattress route. If I’m remembering correctly, this was most recently discussed in this topic. You may find some useful information in the conversation there.
A mattress that is adequate for your BMI, sleeping positions, and activities on the mattress shouldn’t be developing body impressions any time soon. You should be able to get the full length of life out of a quality, appropriate mattress.
Ultimately, with regards to soft or medium, I would suggest reaching out to each of the manufacturers and explaining your plans to them, as well as your BMI and sleeping positions, so they can help guide you (especially if you may be considering 4" instead of 2"). They will be the best resources with regards to their own products and are experts in this field.
