Recommendation on retail stores in SAN Francisco East Bay

Dear sir / madam,

Love the site and the chock full of information. we are in the market for a new mattress and looking for recommendations of stores to visit. We are hesitant to try just the online stores simply because we want to try on the mattress.

We live in SAN Francisco Bay Area, town of SAN Ramon, zip 94583. We did come across nest bedding through your site and plan to visit them this week. If there are others, like nest, please let us know.

Thanks in advance.

Hello mkapadia12:

Thanks for posting!

The following is a bit of an extensive list, but subject to confirming that any retailer or manufacturer on the list is completely transparent (see this article) and to making sure that any mattress you are considering meets your specific criteria and the quality/value guidelines here … the better options or possibilities I’m aware of in and around the San Francisco/San Rafael/Oakland/Berkeley areas are listed in post #2 here.

Going south the list for the San Jose/Santa Cruz/Salinas/Monterey areas is in post #2 here and for the Bakersfield area is in post #2 here and for the San Luis Obispo area is in post #2 here and for the Santa Barbara/Ventura area is in post #2 here and for the Greater Los Angeles region is in post #2 here.

There are certainly some very good options available in the SF area.

Phoenix

Hi Phoenix, thank you for the quick reply. Lots of choices and will check it out. Also, any thoughts on nest bedding product? Thinking about the latest hybrid mattress, that has pocket coils for support and wool and latest for comfort…

Product link: The Owl Natural Latex Hybrid Mattress - Nest Bedding – Nest Bedding®

I am a side sleeper, with a BMi of less than 25. I like sleeping on the top of the bed rather than sinking in an thought this combination would work well. If you have any other recommendations please feel to share.

Thanks

Hi mkapadia12.

This mattress uses good quality materials that would be suitable for your BMI.

Nest Bedding itself is one of the members of this site which means that I think highly of them and that I believe they compete well with the best in the industry in terms of their quality, value, service, knowledge, and transparency but of course this is about the company itself and not about any of their specific mattresses because most companies make a range of mattresses and some of them may be a suitable choice for a specific person and some of them may not be.

I’m not sure what you’ve read since you found the site but just in case you haven’t read it yet … the first place to start your research is the mattress shopping tutorial here which includes all the basic information, steps, and guidelines that can help you make the best possible choice … and perhaps more importantly know how and why to avoid the worst ones.

While I can certainly help with “how” to choose … it’s not possible to make specific suggestions or recommendations for either a mattress, manufacturers/retailers, or combinations of materials or components because the first “rule” of mattress shopping is to always remember that you are the only one that can feel what you feel on a mattress and there are too many unknowns, variables, and personal preferences involved that are unique to each person to use a formula or for anyone to be able to predict or make a specific suggestion or recommendation about which mattress or combination of materials and components or which type of mattress would be the best “match” for you in terms of “comfort”, firmness, or PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and your own Personal preferences) or how a mattress will “feel” to you or compare to another mattress based on specs (either yours or a mattress), sleeping positions, health conditions, or “theory at a distance” that can possibly be more reliable than your own careful testing (hopefully using the testing guidelines in step 4 of the tutorial) or your own personal sleeping experience (see mattress firmness/comfort levels in post #2 here).

Latex certainly tends to have a surface comfort of sleeping “on” instead of sinking “in”, so this item certainly would “on the surface” be worthy of testing.

I look forward to learning about your decision!
