Hi,
My wife and I purchased our first natural latex mattress about 10 years ago and were happy with it for many years but it’s showing it’s age and we both wake up with back pain now. The mattress we have now is a savvy rest with (I think) a firm Dunlop layer on the bottom, a split Dunlop med in the middle and a Talalay on top. It’s developed the typical mattress sag that usually happens with inner springs and we need to do something very soon. I travel a lot and can’t help but compare our mattress to those I run across in hotels. IMHO JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton have the most comfortable mattress on the planet (which you can buy for ~$4200 - anyone know who makes it?) but my better half insists on avoiding VOCs as much as possible. If I can get something kinda sorta close to whatever JW uses with natural latex that would be ideal.
Unfortunately the local retailer we bought from is long gone and there are no other savvy rest dealers anywhere near austin, tx. So any advice? Is there a place that sells layers that are compatible with savvy rest circa 2013? Should we just replace the top layer or the whole thing?
Fwiw, we are both approaching 50, not overweight and sleep on our sides.
Hi ColPanic,
Welcome! It sounds like you have a lot of experience with mattresses through your travels.
Could you talk a little about what is supporting your mattress? Is it a box spring, a platform bed, how far are the slats apart, etc.?
Our company used to have a showroom in Austin, perhaps it is us you bought from? I’m sure there were others there also. We are still in business, and we still offer Savvy Rest and are familiar with their layer swaps, so feel free to call and talk to an associate or hop on chat on our website. One of our experienced staff could help you. It sounds like you may need to adjust that middle layer to get the firmness you desire.
All of our mattresses are clean and avoid VOCs and other toxins, which would please your better half. All are made from organic and natural materials.
Alternatively, you could contact Savvy Rest directly, and they may be able to help you as well.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. It’s a platform bed with no box spring. I don’t know exactly how close the slats are but they are very close. I think we replaced them when we switched to a latex mattress. Neither of us can remember the name of the place we bought from but it was downtown on west 5th or 6th. I did contact a couple of local retailers who said they could order replacement pieces with 4-6 weeks lead time which is a long time to live with it.
We realize now that when we had our floors replaced last year, the contractor took the mattress apart and paid no attention to how it was put together (it’s way too heavy to move). I looked inside to see exactly what it is: the bottom layer is one piece Dunlop firm (DF); middle layer is split DF and DM; top is split TS and DM). So one of us is sleeping on all Dunlop F-M-M and the other has F-F-S. That’s not right.
But since it’s sagging I think we’d like to get 2 new firm middle layers and 2 new soft top talalay layers. Is there anything in between talalay soft and Dunlop medium?
All that being said, I still can’t stop thinking about the beds at JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels. I spend ~150 nights a year in hotels all over the world for business travel. I don’t know why, but those particular beds are peerless IMHO. If I could find something comparable that met my better half’s VOC standards I’d pay nearly anything.
Found the receipt. It was your store.
Glad that we found each other!
Give our staff a call (212-764-3232) or talk to someone on chat on our site (it would not be the same phone number as on your receipt, as there are new owners, but basically the same products). Our website is the same as always.
We continue to sell Savvy Rest. We can absolutely help you with getting your bed fixed up.
Katie
