I am 5’ 10" 190 lbs, almost 70 years old, sleeping solo.
Bed is queen Naturepedic Eos, which I bought 8 years ago, with a Suite Sleep Latex topper. The combo was chosen with the help of a great shop, which has since gone out of business.
A few years after that purchase I added the Tempur ergo powerbase (split queen for stairway access limitations to get the bedding into the bedroom).
I have recently noticed that the topper seems to have shrunken a bit. It is long enough but the sides seem a bit concaved (aka a minor ‘hourglass’ shape). The cover seems to have more slack than i remember, and the topper is about 2-3" shy of covering the whole width of the bed along the entire length of the mattress. This is not a complaint about the topper - as 8 years does not seem an unreasonably short life-span. I just can’t unsee it now, and I am not sure if it needs to be or should be replaced. There are no comfort/pain issues, but I am not sure if it is performing as well as it could.
All that said, I live quite close to the Sleep on Latex facility, and stopped by there today, to eyeball the 2" soft and medium toppers. I think I preferred the sort, but I am a real 'Royal child and the pea" type when it comes to bedding… I just checked the pricing on the current Suite Sleep topper, and it is almost 4x the price of the SOL. Again, not a complaint or a criticism - just really curious whether there is a commensurate quality/performance difference, or if there are other (brand) options I should be exploring.
A 2" soft latex topper in a cover will absolutely do the trick.
I am 5’11" 220 pounds, and 2" medium latex has too much pushback for me. If your mattress is still good and supportive, soft latex will be plush enough and the cover will make it feel premium
Thanks for the reply. A big part of my post is the mystery surrounding whether the Suite Sleep topper has actually shrunk, or the bed ‘widened’ or a combo of both. I feel like I would have noticed as soon as I got the topper that it was smaller than the bed. (In the same way that the so-called ‘full/queen’ “size” is usually skimpy on a queen…
Also curious about the range of prices for what may be a ‘commodity’ item… So, this is a bit of a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, and a price-value inquiry all put together!
Over the period of 8 years it’s definitely realistic to notice some wear on a topper. And about the price to value question, there definitely are some high priced options with toppers. If they add wool to it thats very expensive stuff, but unless it has more expensive ingredients the only motivator i can see for higher prices is they need more profit.
I’ve had my fair share of weird experiences with toppers. Sometimes they like…stretch out and suddenly become longer than the bed (how?!). I’ve never experienced an hour-glass topper, but if you sleep in the middle of the bed and you’ve never flipped it…I could see how it could happen. Especially if it’s at the end of its reasonable lifespan and the foam is beginning to experience some failure.
Which toppers did you look at from SOL and Suite Sleep? I’d be happy to take a look myself and give some ideas and feedback.
The one I already have is from Suite Sleep, it is 2", covcered, and latex. I have no other info on it, and it is the one that is exhibiting the ‘shrinkage’. The one at SOL was a 2" topper, and did a quick sit and lie down on both their soft and medium versions, and I think I liked the soft better. I live less than 1 mile from SOL, so thery are the ‘home team’. I am a side and back sleeper, and have only slept on the one side of the bed - the EOS has seperate cavities into which to olace the components, one is foundation plus firm, the other foundation plus medium (I alost track of which one I am sleeping on) but bought one of each so I could hedge my bets, long-term
I’ve lost a bit of weight since I bought the bed (april 2018) not sure if that has much inmpact on any of this…
