Hi all,
This is a review of my experience with Mattress Maker of New England located in Brockton.
In an earlier post, I had described how I had first purchased a Tuft&Needle mattress, but ended up returning it since it did not work for me as I felt it was too soft. After that, I decided that it is always better to try out a mattress in person, so I decided to shop local. Thanks to the list provided by Pheonix for good local mattress manufacturers around Boston, I ended up visiting Mattress Maker in Brockton.
Brockton is pretty far from where I live and took me about 40 minutes drive to get there. When I entered the store, the lady over there was dealing with some other customers and I had to wait a few minutes. She asked me to look around and that she will be with me shortly. My first impression of the place was that there were too many choices and that selecting a mattress was going to be confusing.
A few minutes later she was able to attend to me, and started asking me about my preferences and sleeping habits. I mentioned that I am used to sleeping on hard mattresses and do not really prefer the sinking feeling. She suggested a couple of floor models mainly -
- All polyfoam - 2.6 density and 45 ILD
- Ambassador model
- Latex over polyfoam
I ended up with liking the Ambassador model (double-sided spring mattress), and then she asked me if I wanted to make it any different from the floor model. Thinking that I like really firm mattresses, I went with the following
660 LFK innerspring
Shoddy pad
1" - 2.6 density 65 ILD
1" - 2.6 density 65 ILD
Quilted cover which has the following
1/2" 1.5 density 27 ILD
3/4" 1.5 density 34 ILD
They were able to hold the delivery to a date that worked for me, and delivered it a week later. As you can imagine with the specs, the mattress was too hard for me, and I realized I overcompensated due to earlier experiences. I gave it a couple of weeks and then called them to use the 60 day comfort adjustment guarantee.
I spoke with Joseph who works there and he helped me figure out a configuration which would be better for me. Here are the final specs I ended up with - .
660 LFK innerspring
Shoddy pad
1" - 2.6 density 45 ILD
1" - 2.6 density 27 ILD
Quilted cover which has the following
1/2" 1.5 density 27 ILD
3/4" 1.5 density 34 ILD
This has been working out well for me. It is firm and it is getting softer and better with every passing day. I have thought about adding a latex topper in the future for even more comfort, but that is a different story.
I would rate my experience with Mattress Maker of Brockton as A+. They were patient when I was in their store and asking a tone of questions. I would like to especially thank Joseph and helping me through the comfort adjustment. They are very knowledgeable people who are genuinely interested in helping you find a good mattress. They are well worth a visit if you live around here, and their prices are unbeatable for the quality they offer.
If you have any questions let me know. Hopefully this helps someone out there.
