Can anyone confirm if the saatva 1.5" latex mattress topper is 100% natural. Customer support claims it is, I know the zenhaven is but the topper product description just says "all natural " which doesn’t really confirm if it’s 100 % natural so I’m not sure.
They just provided me with oeko tex certificate number 11-24246. I am very familiar with this number as many companies that source from talalay global use this number, I still feel like it’s strange that they dont put 100% natural on the product page description. Wouldn’t that be a much better selling point than “all natural” which many people know doesn’t hold as much weight?
Does talalay global even make 1.5" toppers or do you think it’s a custom order or does saatva cut the latex themselves?
Hi Mr yabo.
Saatva prides itself on using natural and not synthetic latex. In the industry, it’s generally understood that “natural” implies 100% natural. If a latex product is not 100% natural, it would be then referred to as “blended” On their website, they say, “all natural, Talalay latex.” This would imply that their latex is 100% Talalay.
The OekoTex number should be reassuring for you. As you say, it’s most likely that they source from Talalay Global. Their 100% Natural (NR) Talalay has the N denomination comes in
○ N1 (14 - 19.99) Extra Soft
○ N2 (20 - 24.99) Soft
○ N3 (25 - 29.99) Medium
○ N4 (30 - 34.99) Firm
○ N5 (35 - 42,99) Extra Firm
○ with nominal midpoints of about 17, 22, 27, 32, 38.
Again, this just lends itself to industry terminology. Natural latex is implicitly 100% natural. You can look on many of our Trusted Members sites and find they also do not specify 100% natural, but rather “all-natural” or “100% latex” even when they are toting high quality, GOLS certified Organic latex.
A 1.5" topper is an unusual size (or anything less than 2"). Typically, the latex provider customizes layers from the get-go. In the US, the newer Talalay molds produce cores which are then saw cut to required thickness.
Phoenix
Thanks Phoenix, i feel better about it.
Phoenix, you’re right about it being unusual for any topper less than 2". A little while back I picked up a 1" N1 talalay global topper from sleeplikeabear(they are sold out now) & a 1" 20ILD Dunlop from sleep on latex just to tweak a slightly uncomfortable mattress and it’s amazing when you hold both materials side by side how different they are even though they are the same thickness/ practically same ILD! The talalay was softer and the holes went all the way through(bc its only 1") the dunlop holes did not go all the way through even on my 1" and I definitely personally prefer the feel of talalay over Dunlop although I do see the value / purpose of Dunlop in the support core of a mattress or perhaps as a transition layer. I know a lot of people love Dunlop in the comfort layer it’s just my personal preference and i am open to it(perhaps continuous pour). I did try obasan briefly at a local retailer which as you know uses continuous pour Dunlop and that felt very nice.
