Saatva value

I see you mentioned that there were other mattresses that were similar but could be of better value that Saatva, but I don’t know how to identify these. Can you advise? Saatva’s delivery and removal charges added more than $100 to the cost which was disappointing. thank you.

Hi mk,

You’ve probably read this but post #1 here has a more detailed assessment of the Saatva mattress and the materials and components they use inside it.

I would also make sure you’ve read the tutorial post here which has all the basic information, steps, and guidelines that can help you with how to make the best possible choice for your specific needs and preferences.

There is more about how to assess the value of a mattress purchase in post #46 here and about the different ways that one mattress can “match” another one that can help you compare mattresses in post #9 here.

If you are only considering a mattress that uses similar materials or components or is in a similar category to the exclusion of other types or categories of mattress in your budget range then you would be looking for a mattress that has an innerspring support core (Saatva uses a Bonnell coil) that also uses a pocket coil or microcoil in the comfort layer (which is why they call it a “coil on coil” mattress). Of course this is just the basic type of mattress and there will be a very wide range of mattresses that can feel and perform very differently in any mattress category. You may also find that a mattress that uses a different combination of materials and components (in either the support core or in the comfort layers) in the same or better budget range is a better match for you in terms of PPP.

If you are only looking for a “coil on coil” mattress though then once you’ve identified the better manufacturers and retailers in your area then you would need to call them and find out if they carry this type of mattress so you could test it.

If you are just looking for a mattress that uses high quality materials and is a good “match” for you in terms of PPP and is good value based on the parts of your personal value equation that are important to you then looking only at a specific type or category of mattress isn’t a good idea as your options to find the best possible mattress for you may be much more limited.

Are you looking only for a Bonnell coil mattress that uses a pocket coil or micro coil in the comfort layers or are you also open to other types of mattresses?
