I’ve replaced my queen sized mattress at least 6-7 times in the last 2 years due to sagging (Serta, Sealy, Simmons), but the problem persists.
At the time this saga began, my frame was only about two years old, so I was always convinced I’d bought a cheap or defective mattress,
I bought a new Saatva two months ago that also felt saggy so I asked for a replacement which arrived last week.
When it too began sagging, I took a friend’s suggestion and added a queen sized piece of 3/4" plywood for added support. I also purchased this new bed frame, thinking maybe mine was old and warped. (Sleep Sync 18-inch Queen Premium Platform Mattress Bed Frame ITEM#: 18960950)
Sadly, nothing worked. There’s a 1-2 ft indentation (lengthwise), right in the center --how is this possible??
Do you think the frame is defective or insufficient? (The Saatva is quite heavy-120 lbs)
But it claims to support 2,400 lbs and I only weigh 140 lbs.
I’ve been reading up on how to reinforce the frame and have considered metal clamps or brackets to more tightly secure the two (twin-sized) halves of my queen frame.
I’ve also been looking at various adjustable leg, center slat support systems, but encountered two problems:
- my frame is 18" high and few legs extend that far
- these don’t seem compatible with my frame. Not sure if any can be modified for my frame make/ model
What do you suggest?
Gratefully,
Mickey
Hi MattressMickey,

Based on how many times you have had the same issue with different mattresses it certainly sounds like there is a problem with the support system you were using under your mattresses.
You can usually confirm this if you put your mattress on the floor to see if it makes any difference. If it doesn’t make any difference at all then the chances are it’s your mattress and if it does make some difference then the chances are it would be your support system. A good support system should provide similar support under a mattress as the floor.
If you replace your support system after your mattress has already been damaged or is sagging then it may not solve the issue or may only partially solve it.
I don’t know the specifics of the support system you were using (which would generally be either a steel or wooden bedframe in combination with a foundation or a platform bed that doesn’t need a foundation) but I would need to see a picture of what you were using to make any meaningful suggestions.
If you can attach some pictures to your post showing the sagging in your mattress and the support system you were using underneath it then I’d certainly be happy to make some additional comments.

Thanks for responding. I bought the same bed frame again. Redirect Notice
Both the frame and mattress are less than 3 weeks old, which is why I think this frame is the p4oblem.
Hi MattressMickey,
It’s certainly possible and even likely if this has happened on so many occasions and as I mentioned you can test your mattress on the floor to see if it makes any difference.
Other than that though I would need to see pictures of your mattress and your old bedframe and the new bedframe as well (if your mattress is also sagging on the new bedframe) that clearly shows the sagging (and not just an image of the bedframe on a website) in order to make any additional comments.
