i went to one of those barebones mattress places in a strip mall since i was tired of dealing with the local chains here. i guess when it said all sales final i should have walked out but here we are.
just one month into ownership i now have a valley to sleep in. if i move a few inches toward the middle. my body is literally resting on a slope with the feeling of falling/sliding. if you slept there youād wake up with a bad back for sure. the mattress was 1250 and it was the 2nd firmest he had there. i dont like super firm. its not a pillowtop or anything and its the mattress itself that has the issue. i took off the sheet and protector and just laid on the mattress. i texted the guy and he said body impressions are normal but it took years for my other one to get the valley and the valley is THE reason i even got a new mattress. and i told him that. why would i want a one month mattress with a valley?
the tag shows the mattress was made one county over SSB manufacturing which i guess is simmons? also on literature on the other side of the warranty chart thereās a section titledā newer type mattress body impressions explainedā
when i texted him he told me body impressions are normal but will send me a warranty claim. combined with this statement iām pretty sure iām screwed but i figured id write here and see if its normal that you get a valley within 1 month. even if it was a cheap mattress id find that hard to believe. heck my childhood bed is in my spare room and after all this time i laid on it and there was no impression lol.
anyway, the literature says no surface will remain flat forever and iām ok with that. but ONE month into using it i have the valley already? is that really normal? its not a memory foam mattress but the paper says impressiions are inherent in the mattress due to more foam layering. it says queen and king may have impressions that are more noticeable and i have a king. even my old mattress, which was a pillow top, took years for it to get dented in. i have 5 inch steel foundation vs the old wood slat kind. at least thats what he told me. i dont know how to verify is steel.
im so upset over all this. if i have this much of a valley after 1 month. i cannot imagine years down the road what this will be like. ill be on the floor.
he send me literature and you are supposed to measure your bed with a broom handle and ruler. totally crazy. you cannot measure the slope that is internal to the bed. he keeps repeating to me that body impressions are normal but he never addresses the slope! itās like he doesnt hear me. he says thereās no comfort guarantee and that just because i dont like it means its not a defect. geez
I think your best bet is to try and get them to come and inspect in person, āhey, I understand that body impressions are normal to a degree, but the surface actually feels defective, sloping to one sideā
Itās what I would try. Itās hard to give any more meaningful advice without seeing images of what it is you are dealing with. And definitely if there is any issue that is not visual with the mattress a photo as you say will not translate the effects, so I would try to push for an in person inspection; if that fails you can then try to reach the manufacturer.
In some cases it is normal to get body indentations almost immediately, what is normal is really a matter of severity and relative to the materials used in construction. Based on what you are describing it sounds like there is something else, unusual happening.
after many emails he just sticks to the line that impressions are normal. will not come out nor send anyone out. id just like someone from the factory here to feel it and tell me why this is normal when every other mattress in my life didnt have this after just a month
and the fact they expect the consumer to put a broomstick across a bed and measure and thats the sole basis for a claim is nuts. iām against govt regulation but i think they need to strike down this arbitrary rule of 1.5 inches
I have tried 3 bed in a box mattresses. One made my shoulders sore but had no slope, the other 2 had the same situation as you mentioned. When I move toward the middle, I am on a slope while lying flat on my back. It is too bad because I sleep really good on this bed, I have since day 1. I rotated it halfway through and have slept in different areas but it didnāt help.
I am wondering if this is an issue with most king size all foam beds because they have so much surface area or just bad luck to get two faulty mattresses. Luckily I had trial periods so that I can return the mattress and move on to another.
My wood slat foundation is sitting in the metal frame properly and I checked the all the wood slats with a level and the foundation is not the cause. The first company would not let me take a picture of myself in bed to show the problem, this company will but what if the next one is the same?
I am wondering if I should try a hybrid coil mattress to see if they have a more consistent surface than an all foam does. I know there are a lot of variables but I get the impression that a hybrid coil mattress is a little less durable than an all foam mattress. That being said, I have seen contradicting claims concerning that.
Iām sorry for your sloping mattress. There is no way that ALL (or even most) high end mattress degrade so quickly. I think you should file a warranty claim.
How do you recommend manufacturers evaluate a dip or a slope on a mattress not in their possession without asking the customer to measure it for them compared to something flat, say a broomstick?
I am convinced memory foam doesnāt work for me. Iāve had the current high end memory foam for 4 yrs. Visually you wonāt see a dip or slope, so the warrantee wonāt apply, but you will certainly feel both a dip and a slope. Seems body heat and weight will quickly āsoftenā the foam so its not supportive & you sink into it more and more, but foam will return to flat visually. Its a flat soft spot, & bugs my back quite a bit. Iām going forward with Latex, no memory foam present. Hard to find a bed without poly or memory foam these days. Hoping for better luck with latex.
I hope you love your latex. I was just talking to a fabric rep today who assured me that everyone in the industry sleeps on latex. Perhaps sheās right and perhaps they do for a reason.
