As part of a returns process for the polyfoam base mattress, I found that I was expected to put the mattress back in a box and return it. I was even pointed to this “lovely” instructional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD73IOG0oiM
Of course, rather than show the roll-up of a stiffer polyfoam mattress, they show the roll-up of a more flexible latex core. Oh, and I need a bag to wrap around the mattress, so that I can use a vacuum to such the air out. Of course, I’d have a bag like that handy if I kept the original packaging and didn’t, oh, tear it (because how hard would it be to do that)?.
Anyway, a word of warning to those thinking of buying Sedona but unsure if you’ll like what you get. A 100-night trial doesn’t mean much if returning the mattress becomes physically infeasible. Caveat emptor.
It is true that some brands will have you return their products in this manner if your purchase unfortunately didn’t work out as well as you had hoped. You’ll always want to be completely aware of any potential return/exchange policies before making a purchase from any online vendor.
Which mattress did you purchase from Sedona Sleep? If you lost your bags, I’m sure they would send you out one to use if you contacted them in order to get your item back. And as a note, if you did have your existing bag and you accidentally tore it, duct tape works fine for covering those tears and allows you to vacuum the product down enough until you can get your second bag over it or get the item in the return box.
In a size larger than a twin, both a mattress using a polyfoam core or a latex mattress can be difficult to roll up, so you’d definitely want to add the help of a friend should you find yourself incapable of safely performing the task alone. The exchange/return policy of any company is certainly something you’d want to consider as part of your personal value equation, especially if you wish to eschew any potential product repackaging.
The return policy on Sedona Sleep’s website, though, was not clear on this. Here it is:
Nothing here states that one would be required to re-box the mattress. Other bed-in-a-box mattress business don’t require this, either. Also, expecting someone to have a Shop-Vac around is a bit much.
Agreed, it’s always nice to have instructions that are as complete as possible, even describing the manner in which the product must be returned. Maybe your comments will be an impetus for that!
While there are other bed-in-a-box companies that require you to donate their mattress, or they arrange for pick up in the expanded size, there are other companies that do require the return of either the complete mattress or the layers of a component mattress compressed in the box in which they were delivered.
Regarding the shop vac, any decent vacuum with a hose attachment will generally do the job for compressing a polyfoam or latex mattress. I’ve used a Hoover Wind Tunnel with great results for this exact purpose. Hopefully you have something like this available in your home.
Which polyfoam core mattress did you purchase from Sedona Sleep?
Thanks for the follow up information. I’m sorry that your base mattress from Sedona Sleep didn’t work out as well as you had hoped. I know you’re not happy with the return process, but at least you did have the foresight to choose something that you were able to return.
Thank you for your enlightening post. I was ready to buy from Sedona, but have now decided to explore all my options. I live alone and in the unlikely event that I needed to return the base layer, it would be very difficult for me to box it up and ship it back.
I don’t know if you saw my reply to your previous post a few days ago, but I listed some other availabilities for you for foam mattress cores as you requested, where you also stated already that you would “like to explore all my options”.
I personally have never found it to be difficult to roll up a foam or latex mattress for return in the method described by Sedona Sleep or other similar brands, but as I mentioned to jjramsey it is also a very smart move to become completely aware of any potential return/exchange policies of any manufacturer or brand you are considering, should they be requesting you to perform a task which you feel you would physically be unable to perform, in the unfortunate situation where you purchase didn’t work out as well as you had hoped. Some of the other mattress manufacturers I linked to in my previous reply to you do require the product to be returned in the event you don’t like it, so I would have a detailed phone conversation with them in advance just to make sure you were comfortable with their policies before making any purchase.
Yes, I did see that you listed several alternatives for the base layer, and I am vey appreciative of you taking the time share this information. I am researching each of the companies you listed.
My reply to JJRamsey was merely to thank her for sharing her experience. I would not have been aware of what was required if a return was necessary. I am sure you are correct when you say that many other vendors also require the product be returned. The thing that I am most aware of after reading JJRamsey’s post, is that I need to be more thorough in my understanding the whole buying process.
BTW, had there been a “private message” option for a reply, I would have used it, since other than thanking JJ, it did not serve any benefit to the forum.
I’m glad you saw my reply to your previous post. I was worried that you may have missed it based upon the similar verbiage in this thread. Good news.
You post brought up some good points, as it’s always good to make yourself as aware as possible of all of a company’s policies before making a purchase. I think your post is just fine – no worries!
