Hello!
I am experiencing extremely tight calves, hamstrings and now tight glutes upon waking with my current mattress setup. I only experience this on my mattress and it progressively gets worse each day. I am 5’4" 115 lbs. I start on my side and then flip to my back for most of the night. I have some hypermobility and hard (firm top) mattresses are a no. The most comfortable sleep I’ve ever experienced was at an AirBnB on a firm mattress with a 3" topper. Coincidentally, the owner also was hypermobile with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (way more sever than my level of hypermobility), but she did not have information about the mattress or topper.
My mattress journey began in 2019. I followed the Mattress Underground 5 Steps to Your Perfect Mattress (super helpful) and tested 50+ mattresses in store. Here is what I purchased and used:
Mattress Setup One June 2019 - April 2020: The Nest Bedding Hybrid Latex - Firm on an adjustable base. I thought I purchased the medium, and now am not sure what it was. Per Nest Bedding’s website this mattress is now called the Owl Natural Latex Hybrid.
Current Mattress Setup April 2020 - YTD: Mattress setup 1 seemed too firm still after a year of breaking it in, so I swapped the dunlop latex insert with Nest Beddings memory foam insert in medium (supposed to be the same as the Nest Bedding Alexander Signature Hybrid) based on talking with a customer service rep. This insert seems to be the second layer from the now called Sparrow Signature Hyrbid. The current base is a Zinus foldable metal foundation.
During my mattress testing in 2019 I identified several mattresses (see the list at the bottom of this post) as the most comfortable and Luma Sleep recommended a gel memory foam comfort layer.
I just noticed the Nest Hybrid Latex and the Nest Alexander Signature Hybrid have different comfort layers:
- Latex (my current mattress) has a soft pillow top design, consisting of plush organic stretch knit cotton and quilting foam.
- Signature hybrid has a quilted gel memory foam top
What would be good next steps to take? Should I try to find a 2" Sealy Immersion Advanced Memory Foam with Chill topper for my current mattress or a comparable topper? Or should I purchase the Nest Sparrow Signature Hybrid to try the gel memory foam top?
Is there a reputable mattress seller on this site that makes mattress similar to the ones listed below? Any direction is appreciated! Thanks!
