Seeking Platform for Mattress

What are you all using for a platform/base for your mattress? I will be getting a hybrid, and right now we have a metal bed frame with a box spring on it and then the bed, so the top of the mattress sits at about 25" off the floor.

I’d be fine with it a bit lower, but some of these foundations that you can order with the beds are only 8" max, and with a 10" mattress, that’s way too low.

I looked online to see if I could order a simple platform frame with slats, but can’t find anything where the slats aren’t more than 3" apart, more than the requirement for these beds.

Does anyone have any sources for platform beds that are had slats less than 3" apart?

Hey Deb,
There are several resources for foundations that offer slats that are less than 3" spacing. @Arizona_Premium has a very nice version in both 5" and 8" heights. Big Fig Makes one that is about 7" high. Ironwoodframeandmattress makes an 8" and 5" version, a bit more budget like, with slats that are good, but not great. @EuropeanSleep has a super solid foundation. The slats are screwed in and are 3/4" thick and come in 5 heights. At 220 I would stand on those slats and they did not flex at all, and they are incredibly made with top notch wood. Mattress Foundations also has a solid 2" spaced slat design, available in an 8" height. They even offer an incline foundation for those folks with breathing issues, acid reflux and other health issues that might warrant and incline sleep position.

These are some that just popped up in my head, I am certain there are others.

Hope this helps,

Maverick

Thanks so much! I’ll take a look at these.

Isn’t 18" (if I got a foundation that is 8" and a mattress that is 10") a little low though for a bed?

Am I missing something or is that the standard height a bed should be?

Yes, but aren’t you placing the foundation on a bed frame?

Sorry, I have no idea what I am doing here. Is that the usual set-up?

So I would either put the foundation on my metal bedframe now (it would just replace my boxspring?) or buy a platform bed (with legs) and attached headboard that has slats less than 3" apart that the bed would just sit on - so no boxspring, and no foundation required?

I’d actually prefer to have an “all-in-one” solution - upholstered headboard and platform with legs, vs a metal frame, foundation and separate headboard. But so many have the slats too far apart.

yes, exactly, a good bedframe with center supports, then you place the foundation on that, which should put you at about 28" or so off the ground. If you assume your bedframe is 10-12" off the ground, and you get an 8" foundation, (up to 20") and your 10" mattress you are at 30". You dont want to go too high, as if you add a topper, you may leave yourself with a mattress you will need yoga blocks to clime in.

:joy: Thanks so much for all of your help!
