Select Foam Regalis HD-12"

We have been sleeping on our Select Foam Regalis HD-12" for 6 weeks now, so I thought it would be a good time to post a review of the mattress and our Select Foam experience.

When we first started shopping for a mattress, as many of you know, it was a daunting and frustrating experience. I was very grateful to find mattressunderground.com for the wealth of information here. After applying Phoenix’s principles of PPP (does that make it PPPPP? ) we were able to narrow down our search. We chose the Select Foam Regalis for its most close approximation in materials/composition to the Tempurpedic Rhapsody Breeze.

I ordered the mattress on January 15th, and after some delays due to the covers arriving late to the factory, we received it on February 7th. So, it took just over 3 weeks including the delays, which, to us, is not a big deal, especially since we were always able to receive a reasonable explanation for the delays. Peter at Select Foam was completely responsive – when they say they have 24/7 support, they mean it. I would send Peter an email on a Saturday night or Sunday, not expecting an answer until the next business day, and he would invariably respond within minutes. And he always answered his cell phone, even when he was home to put the kids on the bus on his day off.

We love the mattress: it is advertised as medium firm, which is what we wanted and exactly what we got. What that means for us is that it is very supportive, but soft enough to conform to the body in just the right places. Definitely not plush, in that you don’t sink in very much, so no foam “wrap-around.” This, combined with the gel-foam, air-flow channels and “cool-max” cover, make for cooler sleeping. This was a concern for us as we had a memory-foam topper on our old mattress, and that was definitely hot. The Regalis is noticeably cooler. And, really good news: my husband’s chronic shoulder pain is gone.

We live in a very rural area, so did not have the opportunity to do the test-runs on the Tempurpedic equivalents. Other than generally understanding the difference in feel between plush and firm memory foam, it was a real leap of faith to order this mattress online. The return policy is great, but would have been a hassle. I can say we owe a lot to Phoenix and the Mattress Undergrounders, who really helped make this a positive experience! Thank you!

Hi Helene,

Thanks for taking the time to update your experiences and feedback with such detail … I appreciate it

It’s great to see that you are both sleeping so well on your new mattress as well because I know how daunting it can be when you are buying online.

I like it !!!

Im new here and have been looking around and in the short time I think I am also leaning toward the Regalis HD™ 12". I was first introduced to the concept of “mail order” beds though family members that got a BedInABox. Plus I’m 99% sure I saw BiaB products at a home show one time. They were ofcourse nice since we’ve never been on a memory foam mattress, but now doing more research Im shying away from BiaB and leaning towards Select Foam.

anyway, on to my question, did you order the frame from Select Foam when your ordered your bed? I know that sometimes to have the full warrenty protection you have to order the manufacturers platform along with the bed.

This bed interests me too. How do you feel a heavier ~250lb side sleeper looking for a supportive yet cushy mattress appreciate this one? (supporting enough so my shoulder wont fall asleep or get sore on my side)

Hi jackintheday,

The quality of the materials would be suitable for higher weights but I would make sure that you tested the Tempurpedic Rhapsody which is the reference they use to compare to the Regalis to make sure that it’s a good match for you in terms of PPP. Of course I would also make sure that you have a more detailed conversation with the manufacturer of any online mattress you are considering.

Hi SC454,

I did not order the Select Foam frame; we purchased the Glideaway Spacesaver 11-wire metal frame from Olejo. This is a very sturdy 14"-high frame, and has plenty of space underneath. Some people like this for the additional storage space, I like it because it’s very easy to get under there to vacuum. I did discuss the frame with Peter at Select Foam at the time I was ordering the mattress, and he agreed that it was an appropriate frame. If you have any question about the frame you are planning to use, I wouldn’t hesitate to call Select Foam and ask, I have found them always very helpful. Good luck!

Hi jaybackintheday,

My husband is in the 270 lb. range; this was one of the considerations that moved us in the direction of the Regalis, since the density and thickness were better suited to someone in that weight range. I agree with Phoenix about the subjectivity of comfort: only you will know whether this mattress will suit your needs, so it would be best if you have the opportunity to test out the Tempurpedic equivalent to give you a good idea (I think it’s the Rhapsody Breeze?). In any case, I know it’s worked out well for my husband - his chronic shoulder pain has vanished after sleeping on this mattress for 8 weeks. We’re very happy with the mattress and Select Foam. Good luck!
