What is your opinion of Sensa Natural Mattresses? They appear to be a small Virginia manufacturer and the Opulence model may be interesting. I found an almost new but used one on craigslist but they are asking $1500 which is way too much and I am trying to determine the new price. It appears they are no longer available new.
Hi Clutchless,
Sensa is the Specialty sleep division of New Energy Bedrooms and when they were making them, I liked their latex and latex hybrid mattresses because they used good quality materials which they fully disclosed and often had better than average value. Their value of course would depend on who was selling them and the prices they charged and how they compared to other similar mattresses. Unfortunately as you mentioned they don’t make them any more and their websites that described them are gone because New Energy Bedrooms is now focusing more on flotation sleep and futons but if you can find them new they may have some good value even though they were likely manufactured some time ago. There aren’t many references to them on the forum outside of post #1 and #2 here because they stopped making them before this website was started.
Like any mattress … it’s the specific materials inside it that matter and if you can find similar mattresses that use the same materials then you would have a better value reference. I would also hesitate to pay more than half price compared to a similar mattress (not just the original selling price of the same mattress which may have been inflated) if I was considering the purchase of a used mattress but even this would depend on circumstances and I personally would have a diffficult time buying a used mattress in the first place (and my DH would veto it even if I did consider it :))
The wayback machine can sometimes help to look at old sites but the links to the pages that have the details about their mattresses (here and here) no longer function (you get an error) and they had a policy of not allowing pricing information online anyway.
