I am seeking specific mattress recommendations. Slept on a Saatva HD for 9 months (with and without a 3 inch topper) and need better ideas. I’ve been to mattress stores for the usual “what feels good”, and am again lost.
Female, 5’8", 170 pounds. Queen mattress. Side sleeper, flip throughout the night with multiple pillows to support body aches. (pillow between knees for hips and low back, and pillow to support upper arm.
I also get hot easily.
I was always a firm mattress sleeper but now I find I am between plush and medium. The Tempurpedic hybrid in the store felt good but at $2,500, is a stretch. Also, Beautyrest Belmont plush felt OK. The Beautyrest Columbia medium pillowtop felt OK but I am afraid might be too hard throughout the night.
I started looking at Costco for cost and ease, but found your website and really appreciated your in-depth articles and thought I’d post here.

Hi @Suzanne3.,welcome to the forum! Glad you found your way here, this is a great place for honest, real world mattress advice.
Based on everything you have shared, side sleeper, 5’8", 170 lbs, sensitive to heat and somewhere between plush and medium, you will likely benefit from a mattress that offers balanced pressure relief and support especially for your hips and shoulders.
Since the Saatva HD did not quite work, it sounds like you need a more contouring comfort layer that still has underlying support a common challenge for side sleepers with aches and temperature sensitivity.
Here are some well reviewed options to consider:
WinkBed (Luxury Firm or Softer) : Zoned support coils + pillow top comfort. Great for side sleepers and very breathable. Often discounted under $2 000 for a queen.
Nolah Evolution 15” (Luxury Firm): One of the most pressure-relieving hybrids on the market. Sleeps cool and really helps with hip and shoulder pressure.
Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe (Medium): Excellent cooling tech, medium firmness with strong support for side sleepers.
Costco Options : Their Novaform and Kirkland Signature mattresses offer solid value but they may not be as refined in pressure relief. Still worth a try since returns are easy.
Tip: If you liked the Tempurpedic hybrid, check out the TEMPUR-Adapt Hybrid when it’s on sale at big retailers ,sometimes drops below $2,000.
Also, don’t overlook adjustable bases for your pillow setup, it might help with alignment and reduce some of the body aches.
Let us know if you want help narrowing these down further and again, welcome.
