Hello! I am new here and have been overwhelmed with the mattress shopping rabbit hole. My husband and I have been sleeping on a Denver Mattress Doctors choice Firm hybrid for the past 10 years and we both have substantial dips.
I am 5’2" and 115 lbs, he is 6’3" and 170 lbs. He said he will sleep on anything, but I can’t sleep on too hard or too soft. I tend to have hip pain and I have had frozen should in both shoulders and I am nearly a complete side sleeper. I am torn between the Sleep ez hybrid and the Luxurion Hybrid. I need support but also not rock hard mattresses that push my hips and shoulders. Any help would be amazing!
When you’re deciding between the SleepEZ Hybrid and the Luxerion Hybrid, it really comes down to how much cushion you need versus how much control you want over the feel, especially if you’re mostly a side sleeper and your hips tend to complain on the wrong mattress.
The SleepEZ Hybrid has more of a classic hybrid vibe. You’ve got coils underneath with latex on each side, and the big selling point is that it’s adjustable. A lot of their setups are flippable or modular, so you’re basically getting more than one firmness in the same mattress. That can be huge for a couple where one person is lighter and more sensitive to firmness and the other is heavier and can sleep on just about anything as in your case. If it feels a little too firm at first or you’re not getting enough give at the shoulders and hips, you’ve got options. You can flip layers, swap things around, flip the mattress or throw on a topper and dial it in during the trial period.
The Luxerion Hybrid is more of a set it and forget it kind of bed. It comes in with a medium firm feel that is piloted with Talalay Latex, that’s aimed squarely at side sleepers who need pressure relief but don’t want to feel like they’re sinking into a marshmallow. The latex and pocketed coils give it a bit of bounce and pushback, so it stays supportive while still taking pressure off the hips and shoulders. If you want something that feels supportive without being brick hard, this one tends to hit that middle ground pretty well. Since it’s not flippable or modular, what you feel on night one is basically what the mattress is meant to feel like, and for a lot of side sleepers, that’s a good thing.
I am not so sure you want to stress over the Talalay of the Luxerion vs the Dunlop in the Sleepez. When quality processed latex is being used, the differences are generally minimal in the Talalay vs Dunlop debate. Talalay is usually processed to softer ILD levels whereas dunlop can cross into that extra firm, if desired feel level.
So the real question is whether you want flexibility or simplicity. The cost difference is negligible, so that is pretty much a non issue. SleepEZ is great if you like having levers to pull and don’t mind a little experimenting to get things just right. Luxerion is better if you want a balanced, side sleeper friendly feel without a lot of tinkering. Either way, both are a solid step up from a sagging mattress, and with a decent trial period in your back pocket, you’ve got room to make the call without stressing too much.
I am certain the folks at @Sleep_EZ will want to chime in and offer a more detailed analysis of their product vs your preferences. Because you mentioned sagging, and 10 years, you it is time to consider your foundation, as part of the new upgrade. The Terra foundation is one of the best out there and is the benchmark for selecting a foundation. Often times a worn, inadequate or mismatched foundation can be the death of a mattress. Unless you have a nice adjustable base, with solid decking, this would be a great time to upgrade everything, even pillows to get the full experience.

Hi Sduffy and thanks for the inquiry and welcome to the forums! The Luxerion Hybrid uses Talalay for the top layer, and it’s less expensive, so I think the Luxerion Hybrid is a better choice for you. Talalay is bouncier and springier and is generally better at contour and pressure relief on your hips and shoulders. Talalay can also be helpful in avoiding back pain because it provides more of what we call secondary support. Secondary support fills in the gaps between your body and the mattress. For side sleepers, this is normally the area between a person’s ribs and waist. For back sleepers, this is normally the area between the small of your back and the mattress. If these parts or your body aren’t being held up by the mattress, your muscles will work all night to hold those parts of your body up, which can lead to back pain.

Thank you for your response…I thought I was set after speaking with Jeremy yesterday. He suggested that if I found the Ezz sleep too hard that a softer mattress topper would likely solve the issue. I honestly had not even looked at the Luxerion Hybrid. The price difference aside which is not my primary concern…with the weight and size differences of my husband and I I wonder if the Luxerion will be too soft for him. I will also say that I have slept on bed that were too soft and I can tell you that isn’t good for hips either. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The Luxerion Hybrid is ideal for anyone under 185 pounds that sleeps on their side or back. It should have an overall “medium” feel for you and maybe a “medium-soft” feel for him. There’s no reason to think it’ll be too firm for either of you, but whether or not it matches your specific needs and preferences just isn’t a question I can answer in advance with certainty.

Thank you so much! One last question if I may, is there a difference between the two issues of a mattress being good for pressure points vs spinal alignment? I see some say one or the other… wouldn’t both be what’s most desired?

So both mattresses have about the same amount of primary back support because they have the same coils as the core / main support of the mattress. The Luxerion Hybrid will have more secondary support than the Sleep EZ Hybrid because it has Talalay for the top later. The Sleep EZ Hybrid does NOT have any more primary support than the Luxerion Hybrid just because it has Dunlop for the top layer. So I really think the Luxerion is a better choice all around.
