Considering a split latex bed from Sleep EZ, but am having difficulty determining what levels of firmness to purchase. Both my husband and I are primarily side (sometimes back) sleepers and previously slept on what would be considered a very firm mattress.
I’ve tried to locate the ILD firmness levels for Sleep EZ’s layers, just to get an idea of “how firm is firm”. We are thinking of an initial stack of extra firm base + firm + firm and the adjust to more soft levels if necessary.
SleepEZ lists the ILD ranges for their Talalay and Dunlop latex layers as follows:
• Soft – 19-22
• Medium – 30-32
• Firm – 37-40
• X Firm – 44
I know that your sleeping style is on your side, but it seems that you prefer a firmer product. Before making a decision, I would take a few moments and place a phone call directly to SleepEZ and explain your situation and what you’re accustomed to currently in your sleeping style and “firmness”, and they would be better able to provide a layering combination that they feel would work best for you, as well as potential combinations of Talalay and Dunlop. The combination you’ve suggested certainly would be quite firm by most any standards.
I’ll be interested to learn of any conversation you have or decisions you might make.
I found this thread via a search, and just wanted to say that I talked to Jim @ SleepEZ this morning (excellent customer service and remarkably friendly - he called me from home at 6AM a few minutes after I left a message!).
He stated the current ILDs for soft/med/firm/XF were:
19-20 soft
30-32 medium
38-40 firm
44 for XF
Essentially the same, Just figure I’d throw that out there since I was on the phone with them this morning. Again, very pleasant person to talk to and very open with suggestions.
