First of all, thanks to Phoenix for providing this valuable service and to all the posters that have helped make this community so helpful.
We’re in the process of configuring a Sleep EZ mattress after testing out various latex mattresses locally. We’ll work with the team there to get their inputs on layer structure based on the usual factors, but I was also interested in learning about how some of you ended up with your specific configuration from Sleep EZ and how it’s working out for you. Even though everybody is different, I thought it would be interesting (and possibly useful) to learn how people arrived at their individual configurations.
If you’re interested and able, please provide:
Layer configuration(s)
Reasons you had or that were provided by Sleep EZ for choosing that configuration
Did you make any layer exchanges to arrive at your final configuration?
I’m a little reluctant to answer just because I’ve only had the mattress (SleepEZ 10,000) for about 6 weeks, and am definitely still in the “getting used to it” phase. But I’m interested in what else people write, so may as well start it off.
Layers: S/M/F and S/M/F (top down). All Talalay, which Shawn suggested, but also that after seeing samples of both, Talalay looked and felt (at least in my hand, not really for laying on) better to me.
Reasons: Shawn at SleepEZ suggested S/M/F for me based on my weight (140), said either that or firmer for my husband (180), but we’d tried a SavvyRest with various options, and he liked soft. We definitely wanted split, to cut down on motion transfer and also because I thought it a pretty safe bet that I’d want to try out other configurations.
Exchanges: I’ve tried both S/S/F and M/M/F but just for a day or two each. I plan to try both of those again for a longer time before my 90 days runs out.
Satisfaction: Still evaluating. I’m definitely finding what other people have said - it takes some time to get used to, and the feel of the bed changes a fair amount during the first several weeks.
After researching and searching, we finally bought a SleepEZ mattress about two weeks ago. My wife and I didn’t have any significant sleep issues except that we were sleeping on a very old inner spring mattress that had outlived its useful life several years ago. Boy were we ready to get rid of it.
So we also ordered S/M/F S/M/F. We opted for the firm layer in Dunlop, because we are sure it will never be an upper, comfort layer, and it seems Dunlop is a good option for those lower, support layers. The other two layers are Talalay. Their thinking is that this gives us the greatest configurability out of the box and will offer us both good comfort and support for our average, non-issue needs.
We have not made any layer exchanges. It has only been two weeks, but we have had no issues at all up to this point. We are both sleeping better and waking up ready for the day.
The service from SleepEZ is first-rate, too. They shipped the same day, and our mattress arrived quickly. I wasn’t totally impressed with the quality of the foundation, especially its cover. I think I could find better, but now it’s here, so we’ll keep it. Also, the one complaint (and it’s pretty small) is that they packaged the mattress cover in with the top layer of foam. There is no way to know it’s in there, and we were worried that they had forgotten it. I didn’t want to unpack a layer to check because if we had to wait for a cover to be sent, I didn’t want the foam lying out. And it just seems silly to put the cover with the top layer, rather than the bottom one. Why would they do that? The cover should be packaged separately (even if in the same shipping box) from the layers so that one can get to it first without opening up those tightly-packed layers of foam. Other than that, all is well.
