Sleep EZ Natural Latex Mattress

Hello! I’m welcoming myself back (after two years). Now that we are expecting a second kid, and just recently bought a bunk bed, I find myself coming back here before I buy new mattresses — again. We’re definitely buying another latex mattress (at least 2 more!). The bunk bed is full/twin, with a twin trundle… The bed will generally be for my kids (eventually). Older one is now almost 5 years old. But, I intend to use the full bed, myself, when baby comes, as this will be in my kids’ room, where the crib will be. I also need the bed to be appropriate for adults as this would also be the guest room.
Question – I am looking at buying the 7" natural latex mattresses from Sleep EZ (based on reputation, and especially since they are currently on sale!)… for both the full and the twin; but I cannot decide on the configuration. My own mattress in our bed is soft, as both my husband and I are of small frame (5’3, 135 lbs) and we prefer soft. But I read on here that medium is better for kids. I know I want a soft top layer (blended talalay); but I can’t decide on the bottom layer — I was originally going to order both soft layers for top and bottom, until I realized medium is probably better for the kids… so maybe medium firmness for the bottom layer. But I don’t know the advantage/disadvantage of using Dunlop as the base or if I should choose blended talalay as the base, as well? Or is it okay to have soft top and bottom layer, blended talalay?
As always, thank you, Phoenix for taking the time responding to our questions and for sharing your thoughts.

Hi moosemom,

Welcome back! :cheer:

As you’re already familiar, you’re considering something using high quality materials, and SleepEZ is a site member here, which means that I think highly of them.

I would consider leaning toward using a Medium for the base layer in this mattress for growing children. Your preference of Dunlop or Talalay would strictly be personal. Dunlop does have a bit of a higher compression modulus (firms up faster), so it is a popular choice for use in the base layer of mattresses. When phoning SleepEZ you may also wish to inquire as to their opinion and the feedback they’ve received from people ordering this for children and if they have a preference for one version versus another. The Dunlop would be 100% natural, and the Talalay would be blended, if you had a personal preference, but I would consider both materials to be very high quality.

I’ll be interested in learning about what you find out and decide to do.

Thank you, Phoenix. I spoke with Jim at Sleep EZ and he had the same recommendation. I went with soft blended talalay for the top and medium dunlop for the bottom.

Jim was very nice and helpful; even called me again to remind me of the Mattress Underground discount. I’ll be receiving my mattresses by this Friday. I won’t be able to try it out yet though until the bed comes.

Thanks again!

Hi moosemom,

Thanks for the update, and congratulations on the new SleepEZ mattresses. :cheer: You already are aware of the quality of latex and you know you made a good quality choice for your children.

I’m glad you were given good advice when you phoned SleepEZ, and I hope that everything works out well with the comfort choice you made.
