I’ve been on this site for a while and really appreciate the expert opinions. My wife, however, loves her old Beautyrest.
The new ones are over 3k and are basically overpriced hybrids - coils and 5 inches of unknown foams and crap.
I’m trying to convince her of a better option. The Beautyrest is a waste of money. The top layers will wear down in a few years leaving us sore and 3k poorer.
I’ve been looking at a Sleep on Latex medium mattress and a base and medium layer and a Tempurpedic (4lb per square inch, I believe) to give her the memory foam feel she enjoys. Once topper wears out, just get another.
Advice? Anyone do something similar? She’s tried latex toppers and hates the feel, so gotta be something like latex plus a good foam topper.
Sorry to hear that your Beautyrest is not meeting your needs any longer. You are correct in your observation – though many consumers enjoy Beautyrest, their lack of transparency raises red flags. Anytime you are dealing with memory foam, its good to have the specs – thickness and density – since, as you have seen, memory foam can ‘break down’ prematurely leaving ‘worn in’ areas which can cause discomfort, muscle pain and even alignment issues. You may want to show your wife theMattress Durability Guidelines to get a better idea of how memory foam holds up over time compared to latex.
I’m assuming you are looking at the Sleep On Latex Pure Green Organic medium Mattress, Which is an 8" organic latex mattress with a wool & cotton cover – this should be a durable solution, and if you are willing to replace the memory foam topper when it breaks down, should be fine as long as you and your wife feel comfortable on it. There have been some issues recently on the supply chain side regarding denser memory foams, so I would make sure that they have your desired 4lb/cuft foam topper when you order, as Tempurpedic does not usually list the densities of their foams.
As you probably know, any mattress is unique to sleepers using it, based on their stats(height, BMI, sleeping position(s) and any underlying health conditions) and the sleepers’ PPP(Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences) Your wife may want to try a latex/memory foam topper in a showroom locally, if possible, just so she can see how it feels. It may take a bit of trial and error, but it seems you are on the right track.
