SleepEZ 10,000 mattress review

Hi all,

First, thanks to Phoenix and everyone on this forum for all of the incredible information and advice. It is refreshing to find people committed to education – and not marketing BS masquerading as education

After a great deal of research, we purchased a King size SleepEZ 10" latex mattress with the organic cover. We had tested and loved a SavvyRest Serenity mattress, but after learning more on this site, decided to go with the SleepEZ as it was simply a better value. My DH and I have the same configuration - firm (bottom), medium (middle), soft (top) – all Dunlop. We prefer a firmer mattress and this felt right to us. I also put a Sleep & Beyond washable wool topper on the bed, which is quite thick.

When I called Shawn at SleepEZ, he was very responsive and able to answer my questions. I placed the order, received my fed ex tracking number, and the mattress arrived on time. A couple of the boxes had split in transit, but the latex layers were not damaged. So far, so good.

Then I went to assemble the mattress. Two important notes: 1) we have a King size slatted platform bed and 2) I was doing this by myself. It was easy enough to unpack the boxes although I did need to cut them apart. I located the cover and put that on the bed. However, because we have a platform bed, there is no foundation to “fold the corners” over onto as described in the SleepEZ assembly video. When I got the first two layers on the cover, it looked like the cover was several inches short all the way around. In a panic, I called SleepEZ to see if they had sent me the wrong size cover. I spoke to Shawn and he said he gets these calls at least 10X/month, and not to worry, it will fit. So I kept trying, and it would not fit. I called back and Shawn had Jeremy give me a call. He said that a platform bed is in fact tricker and to try to line up the edges of the latex with the outside seams of the cover. (Now, at this point, I’ve picked up and set down multiple layers of latex, multiple times. It was a WORKOUT!)

With that advice, I was finally able to get the layers lined up enough to get them into the cover. The analogy I would use is this: it’s a bit like frying an egg. You crack the egg, put it in the pan, but then you have to coax the edges of the egg with a spatula so the edges don’t spread out too much. The latex edges had to be coaxed into a tighter rectangle in order to have any chance of fitting in the cover. I still had to fight the cover sliding all over the place because the platform had nothing for it to “hook” onto, but once I figured out how to smoosh the edges in, I was able to assemble the mattress. It did take several hours though, and while I’m not a body builder, I’ve got decent strength. My advice: wait until someone else can help with this if you have a larger size mattress!!

So…FINALLY the bed is assembled. The quality of the cover is very nice and the zipper seems very sturdy although it is heavy plastic, not brass as we had seen on the SaavyRest. Now, the true test. SLEEPING on it! It has been wonderful! Very comfortable. In fact, we had to go to a hotel for a few days and my husband commented how much he missed our bed. He has now commented several times how much he likes it! He is not one to comment on things like this, but the fact that he really likes it (and I really like it) makes the assembly drama worth it. At this point, I don’t think we’ll need to exchange layers (we’ve only been sleeping on it for 2 weeks) but no problems so far.

All in all, I would make the purchase again. Shawn and Jeremy were both very helpful, very responsive, and you could tell they cared about the customer. The quality appears very good and the service outstanding. My only suggesion to them would be to address how to assemble the mattress if you have a platform bed/no foundation on their website and to note that the cover will appear too small at first.

Again, a big THANK YOU to Phoenix - this is a great resource!

Hi kmk9,

Thanks for taking the time to share such detailed feedback.

I can sympathize with you about putting the mattress together and with the elasticity and “stretchability” of latex and with your platform bed your eggs comparison is sure appropriate. It’s a lot easier as a two person job but I’m glad you were able to put it all together in the end.

Thanks again for the comments … and I’m happy that the hard part is over and all that’s left to do is sleeping on it

Hi Kmk9, I have been thinking of buying this exact configuration. My only concern is that although I do tend to prefer a more firm and supportive mattress, I like to sleep in my side sometimes so I’ve been torn about how soft the comfort layer should be. Do you find the all dunlop configuration to be very firm? Are you mostly a back sleeper or do you sleep on your side as well? Also, now that you’ve been sleeping on the mattress for a while, has your opinion of it changed at all? I’d appreciate any feedback you can give me.
