Has anyone ordered the organic 10 inch latex mattress with a separate 3 inch topper from Sleepez? I will need 2 twin XL mattresses and I am looking into ordering this configuration. The topper will have the wool cover as does the mattress. Because the topper is in its own cover on top of the mattress, will it slide around? I have an adjustable bed also that is 2 Twin XL bases and together they make up a king but can be adjusted separately.
Will this mattress being a total of 13+ inches have any difficulty on the adjustable base?
Will the topper stay in place or will it need to be adjusted when the bed is made?
Hi Gootzer,
Welcome to the Mattress Forum!
Between the mass of the latex used in the topper and the higher coefficient of friction between the cotton bottom of the topper covering and the top layer of the mattress, your topper will tend to stay in place quite well. By necessity there has to be some sliding fore and aft (versus side to side) when adjusting your mattress up and down with your power foundation, but overall latex mattress toppers tend to stay in place quite well. Additionally, you’d be using a twin XL mattress pad and fitted sheet over both the topper and mattress, and this helps to keep things “in place” as well.
Sliding toppers tend to be more common with lighter toppers (like polyfoam), and also when placed upon mattresses using more “slippery” ticking, such as damask (which isn’t as commonly used today).
This normally wouldn’t be a problem for most modern power foundations. You can always check the lift capacity for your current base if you have a concern, but the most common brands wouldn’t have a problem with a configuration like this.
I’m sure that if you adjusted your mattress up and down frequently through the entire range of motion it could impact how often you might have to reposition things, but overall “topper creep” isn’t a common complaint with a configuration as you’ve described.
If you have any further concerns with the configuration you’re considering, I would recommend a phone call directly to SleepEZ (a site member here, which means that I think highly of them) and they could provide a bit more information on their specific experiences with that topper/mattress combination.
