SleepEZ Roma for 3 year old

Just purchased a SleepEZ Roma for my 3 year old daughter. My only requirement was something full latex that will last. Plan is to use the firm side first, then eventually flip to the medium side, is that the correct way to use it? Is there any reason to think I made the wrong decision?

Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike,

Welcome back to TMU’s forum  ! Nice to see you again and thanks for your question.

Congrats on your new mattress purchase from trusted member Sleep Ez  ! What a lovely gift for your 3 year old daughter! The Roma should serve her well as she grows and matures into her teen years, all-latex mattresses are among the most durable of mattress categories.

What advice did Sleep EZ have on which side to use first? She is at an age where she should comfortably sleep on either side that you choose to start with; however, they are better qualified to offer suggestions as the Roma is their product design. There really is no “correct” way to use a dual sided mattress; rather, the side chosen is the one that provides the most comfort for the user’s preferences.

Some other considerations for your review: use of a mattress protector and a pillow. A child’s mattress can benefit from the addition of a mattress protector for a number of reasons, including prolonging the freshness and useful life of a mattress. Mattress protector use is also required by some warranties, so you will want to check and see if that is mentioned in your warranty as well. Also, use of an appropriately sized pillow for a growing child is important for maintaining proper head and neck positioning, as well as encouraging proper spinal alignment. You may find this article from Sleep Foundation regarding Children and Sleep an interesting read for tips on children’s changing sleep needs as they grow older. You have purchased a quality, natural/ all-latex mattress with the Roma, and there is no reason to think that your have made a “wrong decision”, she should enjoy it for many years to come  .

Hi Mike and thank you so much for the order and thanks for reaching out on this! I know you didn’t post this in the “Ask the Experts” forum so I hope it’s OK that I respond anyway. Honestly, the weight of a 3 year old is not enough for her to sink into the mattress very much at all, whether she’s on the softer side or the firmer side. The softer side will feel more like a medium or firm mattress, and the firmer side will feel like a firm or extra firm mattress. As such, I think she’ll be fine on the softer or firmer side, but you’re welcome to use it on the firmer side just to make extra sure she gets some extra support during the primary stages of spinal / bone development, that’s perfectly fine!
