Searching for a mattress is so difficult. I like the sinking feel of pillowtops with some support below. I’m only 105 lbs and I find that there needs to be sufficient softness so that my hips can sink or I feel out of alignment. I feel a pillowtop hybrid is my best bet. In testing beds in stores, I like the feel of a Beautyrest Series 3 medium pillowtop but don’t like its thickness nor the reputed poor quality of the mattress for such a high cost. It seems buying a direct to consumer is the way to go but it’s scary to buy a mattress I haven’t tested. Does anyone have suggestions among mattresses such as Bear, Diamond, Heliz, and Leeesa what might work for me? Thanks for any help!!

Well you’re right about beautyrest. They are really built like any usual poly foam bed but the marketing is what gets people. I usually recommend the Nest and wild hybrid a lot because it’s soft on the top and the base is supportive. Its like a 4.5/10 firmness but still keeps a persons alignment in check. The website isn’t flashy or anything but the owner is a great guy and i always liked that its under 1000 for a queen with the 10% coupon they offer on the site. There are quite a few great options, this is just my favorite.

At 105 lbs, shopping for a mattress is a completely different challenge than it is for most people. Because you are lightweight, your body simply does not exert enough force to push through standard, dense foam layers to engage the support coils beneath. If a mattress is even slightly too firm, you end up floating directly on top of it, leaving your waist unsupported and putting severe, unyielding pressure right on your shoulder and hip joints.
Your instinct to look for a plush pillow top hybrid is absolutely correct. A great hybrid gives you that thick, immediate surface sink to cradle your curves, while the independent pocketed coils underneath keep your spine properly aligned without making you feel stuck.
Since you liked the initial pressure relief of that Beautyrest Series 3 medium pillow top but want better component quality and a lower profile, direct-to-consumer is definitely the smartest route. Among the brands you are looking at, here are the specific plush models that will actually work for a 105 lb side sleeper:
