For those who are interested in some of the happenings in the industry … there have been some interesting developments in the airbed category.
First … Tempurpedic is introducing an airbed to compete directly with one of its largest competitors in specialty sleep.
Second … Select Comfort has just purchased Comfortaire its largest (but still relatively small) competitor.
This continues the trend of consolidation in the mattress industry where Simmons and Serta share common ownership, Tempurpedic has just purchased Sealy, and now the top two airbed manufacturers also have common ownership.
I guess this means that if you can’t compete … or don’t want to … just buy your competition
