For starters, thanks for all the great info on this site.
My wife and I are at the ready to pull the trigger on a new queen mattress.
I have read the tutorial and think we have found a mattress that should meet our needs but would like a final opinion on the specs…I don’t understand the “Quantum coils” so I am asking more questions about that.
We range between BMI of 23 and 29… side sleepers with one of us sleeping on our back as well.
I think everything looks ok…thoughts/concerns other info I should be asking about?
The vendor/manufacturer (local & so far really great to interact with) seems willing to work with us on the details, so if we need we could consider tweaks.
Data dump:
609 Pocketed Coils
[li]13.5 Gauge
6" Height
5 Turns[/li]
1" Hard Foam
[li]1.5#
46 ILD[/li]
2" Latex (pretty sure it is Talalay (more homogeneous of the two)…but double checking)
[li]60% Synthetic/40% Natural
Made by Latexco in a continuous pour
60,000 grams/cubic meter
Approximately 4#
18-21 ILD[/li]
Quantum Coils (with extra support in the lumbar region)
Unfortunately, I’m not too sure you’re proving totally accurate specifications of the mattress you’re considering, as you’ve listed two support innerspring units and a small amount of foam. It would be more helpful if you could post back here more direct information about the product you’re considering in the correct layering order within the mattress. With that information I could provide a more accurate analysis of the mattress you’re considering.
Hopefully this makes more sense…
From top to bottom it goes:
Organic Cotton Quilt Panel
2" Latex (Dunlop and Latexco make the latex using the same method)
1" Hard Foam (1.5#)
609 Pocketed Coils - these are Foam Encased - this provides the bed with edge support
1" Hard Foam

That order makes more sense, that’s for sure.
From this and what you provided previously, it seems you have a quilt panel using organic cotton for the ticking, but you don’t mention what is quilted to that material. You’d want to find that out. Then you have 2" of continuous pour Dunlop that is a 60/40 SBR/NR blend at 60 kg/m3 density (Dunlop is the production process, Latexco is the company making the latex). This would be a good quality and durable material. Beneath that is 1" of 1.5 lb polyfoam that is quite hard at 46 IFD. This foam is located above and below the innerspring unit, which seems to be a 609 spring count with a foam edge reinforcement system. While the 1.5 lb polyfoam is a bit lower than I normally recommend, the location in the mattress and firmer nature would not be a cause of concern for most individuals in your BMI range.
Of course, I can’t speak to whether or not this mattress would be comfortable for you, as that can only be determined through your own careful personal testing, and I would be sure to find out the material in the quilt panel of the mattress, and also become familiar with any return/exchange policy that this company might have if this I an online order.
Tracked down the quilt panel contents: Mix of organic cotton, cashmere wool and polyester.
We have tried the mattress and love the feel (initial) and think we’re getting good alignment (tougher to feel confident about) so the last step was to verify the quality all checks.
Working with a local manufacturer that we really like so far…found through recommendation on your site as a potential. Will leave specifics in this thread for others if we follow through with purchase.
Thanks for the confirmation of the quilt panels specs (no polyfoam) and I’m glad that you were able to obtain that information. I’ll be interested to learn of anything you decide to do, and I’m happy that you’re able to receive good service and assistance from your local manufacturer.
