I’m so glad I stumbled onto this forum. Without it, I would have spent thousands of $$ that i didn’t have to spend, and I doubt I would be sleeping any more soundly than I am right now. I’ll send a small donation shortly.
A little backstory: I wanted to buy a latex bed the last time my husband and I went mattress shopping. We live in New England and bought our last spring mattress from Jordan’s Furniture. I tried and fell in love with a latex product there 8 years ago but couldn’t convince my husband to try something so “radical.” He was convinced, however, to go in a different direction after seeing how badly our very expensive mattress sagged after only 8 years.
First stop, was Jordan’s again. They carry a brand called PranaSleep, but they’re not very forthcoming about what’s actually inside the very firm mattress that we liked best. I also didn’t like the price tag of about $4600, which included a foundation they absolutely insisted I would need.
I found some other reputable brick-and-mortar stores courtesy of this forum and we found another mattress made by GreenSleep that we liked a lot. It was their highest-end product, with 3 layers plus an integrated topper. It was a beautiful product to look at (gorgeous velour covering), exceedingly comfortable, and we appreciated that the owner of the store was knowledgeable about the product and not pushy. But the retail price of that mattress was around $4400. We tried mattresses at many other stores, but none were what we were looking for, and prices were really no better.
We considered purchasing from an online mattress manufacturer, and I called several with questions. For the most part, I found the telephone sales reps to be less than helpful. It didn’t instill confidence in me to be buying an expensive item that I had to sleep on every night sight unseen and with so little help to go on. In desperation, I turned back to this forum and found Spindle Mattress, which is located less than an hour from my house.
In short, purchasing from Spindle was a fantastic decision. I ended up with an amazing bed at an incredible price of less than $1600 for a queen (included a topper, and the Underground discount), and one of the best customer service experiences of my life. I absolutely was able to replicate the “feeling” I got from the $4400 GreenSleep mattress using 3 firm layers of Dunlop latex from Spindle, plus their medium topper.
Marketing Director Kim Novick knew everything about his company’s product and was extremely hands-off when it came to making the sale, which I appreciated. Moreover, even though there was an order backlog, he managed to get my new mattress to me in just 2 days when I mentioned my very sore back and inability to sleep on my old mattress. And even though nobody wants to have a “problem” when they buy something, it’s often a fact of life, and it’s how a company handles the problem that makes all the difference. In this case, one of the layers we received was the wrong firmness. Spindle responded immediately to my call and I received the correct layer the very next day. FedEx was also sent to my home to pick up the incorrect layer.
And while this mattress doesn’t have the fancy velour covering with the hand tufting of the GreenSleep product, I could not care less. The mattress is hidden beneath our sheets most of the time anyway. My husband and I are enjoying the soundest, most comfortable sleep I’ve had in my life – and my bank account is happy, too.
