I’ve been looking at local latex mattress sellers and decided on Spindle which is about an hour from us in Massachusetts - or so I thought. There were many wonderful Google reviews and The Mattress Underground listing that reassured me when they said there was no longer a showroom where we could try the mattresses. Now I’ve learned the company was sold in 2022 and the production facility is in Illinois. It seems that it isn’t the same company that prompted all those great pre-2022 reviews. Has anyone had dealings with them recently? Is the production facility making mattresses for other brand names?
Thanks for any help.
Hi Silve,
We’re not overlooking your question. There have been some recent changes at Spindle, but they remain a Trusted Member of TMU, which means they continue to meet our stringent criteria for Trusted Members.
Hopefully, another MUGster (forum subscriber) will share their recent purchase experiences and insights.
Thank you for your inquiry (I combined your question into the discussion area to avoid duplication).
Thanks for your patience.
Maverick
I don’t mean to intrude here, but if you are in Massachusetts, you may not be too far from our southern New Hampshire showroom. Our Hudson organic latex mattress is in a similar price range to the Spindle. We do get a number of people who come up from Massachusetts due to our lack of sales tax
Best of luck with your search for a Spindle. Let us know if we can be helpful in any way.
Hudson is an excellent choice!
Hi Silve,
Welcome to our Mattress Forum!.
You’re absolutely right—Spindle no longer has a retail location following the change in ownership. You can find all the updated information on Spindle’s business profile here. Thanks for prompting us, we’ve overlooked the update.
The transition to new ownership was completed at the end of 2022 and throughout 2023, with Neal, the founder and former owner, overseeing the process to ensure that production, quality, warranties, and policies remained unchanged. Spindle mattresses are now produced in Chicago, IL, maintaining the same high standards as before. We’ve been impressed by the seamless transition and the continued excellence of their products, and they remain a valued Member of TMU.
Thank you, @TheCleanBedroom and Katie, for coming to the rescue. We’ve heard only great things about you from your partners at the Las Vegas Market!
Maverick thank you for reaching out to me. I appreciate that you “fixed” my posts. It was very confusing posting for the first time.
I’m used to making big purchases in person and buying online isn’t comfortable. When I found out Spindle was no longer in Acton and had been sold it shook my confidence in them.
Brian thank you – I’ve been looking for local sources for Dunlop latex mattresses that I can actually try before buying. I’m very glad you responded.
Thank you phoenix for the information on Spindle. I’m reassured, but if there is a local option I’d much rather go that route.
This is a wonderful forum!
Perfectly understandable. Just dont settle for something simply because it is local. As you may have read some stories in the forum, as recent as the last couple of days, folks bought local and it was a bad experience.
Just make certain of knowing your 4R’s. Refund, Restocking Fee, Return policy, Reputation/Reviews from independent off site reviews.
I am an advocate of supporting local independent businesses when appropriate. Keep in mind that most of the TMs here at TMU are precisely that, local and perhaps regional independent businesses who have passed the scrutiny of the Mattress UnderGround’s rigid requirements of transparency and level of quality.
So if you do reach a local roadblock, TMU’s TMs are always here for you.

Maverick, my interest in buying local is mainly to try the mattress before buying it. I’m very impressed with the selection at The Clean Bedroom.
Our first latex mattress which was an Englander purchased at Sears in 1971. It was wonderful – firm but extremely comfortable – and lasted for over 25 years. Research on this site led me to believe it was Dunlop process latex. Its successors were “latex” (I assume Tallalay) and didn’t compare in longevity. This will be our fourth – and hopefully last – latex mattress.
Thank you for all the help. It’s greatly appreciated.
Yes @TheCleanBedroom does have a very nice selection and they have great professionals there to help.
The talalay process has been around since the 1940’s, but if you bought it from sears it may have been Dunlop.
You will find that there are advocates on both sides of the fence on which is
“better” or longer lasting when comparing Dunlop produced vs Talalay produced latex.
Foam in general is said that the more dense it is the more durable and longer lasting, but @FloBeds might offer a different opinion on that, see here.
Dunlop does have the support factor advantange but Talalay has the very uniform density. Both are good and have their own subtle differences. Tastes Great or Less Filling, lol. I guess the debate rages on.
Getting 25 years, certainly got your money’s worth, so you lost nothing there. Hopefully TCB will have a nice pick for you and you can ride into the sunset with one of their beautiful pieces.
Keep us posted!
I recently purchased a mattress from Spindle. I spoke with a representative first and asked my questions. They were very helpful and totally wanting the customer to make their purchase with confidence. Their guarantee to help the customer certainly felt authentic. I know that laying on a mattress in a showroom isn’t ever going to give me a proper indication of how well the mattress will serve my back issues. I have been sleeping on the mattress I purchased for 2 weeks. It is very different from my old memory foam mattress in feel, but I have not had any back pain at all. This is why I bought a new mattress so I am very pleased.
Marge, thank you for taking the time to post. I’m afraid I was rattled when I realized Spindle wasn’t where I thought they were. I’m glad that you found relief with the Spindle latex mattress.
