We’re looking at a 10" King latex mattress (2 layers of dunlop 1 layer of talalay within a cover quilted with an inch of cotton/wool. The mattress is the same on both sides (firm med soft) but will be split halves to allow more customization. I was originally planning on a full-size (no split) top talalay layer to “unify” the halves on the layers below.
But two mattress salespeople have assured me we won’t feel the seam or end up with a center divot where the halves meet when it is under a quilted wool/cotton zip cover and suggested I get the top in two pieces to further my customization options.
Is this really the case? We tend to sleep close together in the middle of the bed. For us the middle of the best is the most used part – our individual halves are less important.
So, tell me Phoenix and the hive mind of Mattress Underground – one piece top layer or two separate halves.
It would be very odd for you to be able to feel the seam between the split layers on a latex mattress where the layers on each level are the same product and thickness, and the layers are held together with a good quality cover that is tight enough. Latex is quite “sticky” and flexible and the layers generally won’t shift to cause a gap in the area.

Thank you! I had read that post (or similar) when I started looking, and intellectually it sounds reasonable. But emotionally I just wanted a lil’ more reassurance from people who had been where I’m laying and lived to tell about it. Thanks again!
