Hi Phoenix and all,
Please forgive me if there is already a thread on this topic. I’ve seen the reviews of various adjustable beds, but I’m wondering your thoughts and experiences regarding putting a spring mattress on an adjustable base. Is that still effective? Will it damage the mattress by folding it at all with the coils, etc?
Thanks so much!
Hi SleeplessinDallas,
It would damage some spring mattresses and with others it would be fine.
Most pocket coil mattresses would be fine on an adjustable bed but if the mattress uses an innerspring system that is connected with helicals (Bonnell, Offset, or Continuous coil systems) or that has a border wire then it would need modifications in the design so that bending it to the angles of an adjustable bed won’t damage the spring system in the mattress. In the case of an innerspring mattress it’s generally best to check with the manufacturer to make sure its suitable for use on an adjustable bed because like most things connected to mattresses there can be exceptions to every rule.
