i originally purchased back in 2020 a Stearns and Foster Cal King Cassat Luxury Estate Ultra Plush pillow top and was just able to get a warranty exchange/upgrade approved by Stearns and Foster directly, due to sagging in the middle. The mattress always felt too hard with alot of pain in the hips/shoulders, but I did love the edge support Previously, I had the Englander Latex / Foam bed and it lasted a wonderful 15 years. I am stuck with SF and wanted to know what you all think of the SF Luxury Hybrid? Do i get a Soft, Medium or Firm? I went to my local store and tried the Soft and Firm but they didnt have the Medium. I checked many stores in the central valley, east bay SF and no one so far carries to Medium on display to try out.
I am 6ft 3, 235 pounds and have had 2 lower bad surgeries (l4/L5) and suffer from degenerative disc disease, and also Fibromyalgia, Lyme Disease and Chronic Fatigue. I am a back and side sleeper. I want the support but need pressure relief.
Our two-year-old S & F (similar model) went to the local women’s shelter a couple of weeks ago. I am 5’1", 133 lbs. but with similar health issues (fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, arthritis, lower back disc damage, etc.) and am now loving my DIY organic latex (components from Latex Mattress Factory) on an adjustable base (zero-gravity and adjustable lumbar support are awesome). The latex experts can help you layer types and densities to suit your build, sleeping positions, health issues, etc. A bit more work than just getting a ready-made locally, but SO worth it!
Hi, which Stearns and Foster model did you have and what firm this level? I just went with the warranty exchange since I put so much money into this bed, I just upgraded to the Stearns and Foster luxury hybrid firm hopefully that will work for me given that it’s a hybrid with a different coil and detached foam setup. If not then it’s going to go into guest room and I will most likely do what you recommended. Edge support is very important to me, how’s the edge support?
We had two, still have one. The one that was donated / replaced with latex was the Luxe Estate Cassatt Firm. My husband thought it was too soft, even for side-sleeping. I thought the exaggerated tufting was like sleeping in a freshly plowed field (admittedly I am a “Princess and the Pea” sleeper after 16 years on a Tempurpedic). The other one is an Estate Collection Ultra Firm - hubby’s request. It’s TOO firm, even for him, so it now has 2" of soft Dunlop latex on it.
As for edge support on the latex, there is none because there is no frame - just three slabs (could be four) of latex. I don’t mind though - I don’t sit on the edge of the bed more than two seconds while getting up. Laying near the edge there is no roll-off because the edges are the same support as the rest of the mattress.
Yeah the pillow top tufting felt so uneven maybe it’s different now as they replaced I think the microcoils with latex. I had the luxury Ultra plush pillow top and I thought that was way too firm, so I’m hoping this newer luxury hybrid with the new technology and a tight top firm will do the trick. If it doesn’t, then I’ll go back to probably a latex poly combo or a full latex bed and put that in the guest room.
