Still thinking about getting a latex mattress. If I do I’ll need a foundation too. I came across this Sultan Laxeby Foundation at the Idea site and got to wondering … Could I just place it on top of my existing box springs? They’re still in good shape, and it seems like edges of the slat system would fit right on top of the edges of the box springs. This might seem like an odd question but with a Cal King it could save me several hundred dollars if this would work.
Hi jwilock,
The laxeby is designed for use on a bedframe that has side and center rails to support it and keep it from moving and shifting such as one of Ikea’s beds like this.
I don’t think it would work well at all on a boxspring (with springs inside it) because only a few of the springs would be bearing weight (on the side and center support only) and it wouldn’t support the weight of the mattress evenly across all the springs. I also don’t think it would be particularly stable even on a rigid foundation that doesn’t have side rails and is the right size to keep the laxeby from shifting or sliding with movement.
