Help with firmness for an Arizona premium eco hybrid mattress
I was questioning to order the eco sleep plush talaley latex hybrid (19) or the medium (28). Upon recommendation of Ken from mattresses.net (Arizona Premium Matresses) I ordered the Queen 3"medium and added a 2" soft Dunlop that I had at home to it (they increased the size of mattress cover for me to be able to do this). It primarily has 5" Bolsa coils with Caliber edge coils around the sides. I’ve slept on it for 3 weeks. I’m 5’3" 120-125’ female with osteoporosis. Even though my hips slightly sink in it feels like I am sleeping on a board. I have jumped on it in attempts to quicken the softening process. Unfortunately I’ll have to pay shipping to exchange the 3" medium talalay layer for a 3" talalay plush layer. If I do this exchange will the plush be supportive? Another option could purchasing and adding another soft (19) 1" Dunlop latex layer (there’s room for another 1" in the mattress cover)
Thanks!
Hey soulhorizon,
Welcome to TMU ! Thanks for your question.
Congrats on your new mattress purchase from expert trusted member Arizona Premium Mattress! For clarity, was it recommended that you add the 2" soft Dunlop layer that you had at home to the Eco Sleep Queen/ 3" medium talalay latex hybrid mattress? What mattress brand and type were you sleeping on before and how old was it? Did you use the Dunlop topper on that as well?

I’m sorry to learn of your osteoporosis condition and hope that you are well and comfortable. Have you spoken with anyone at Arizona Premium regarding your comfort exchange questions? They are deeply knowledgeable in the latex category and have years of experience pairing consumers with the materials and layering that are best suited for individual comfort and support preferences. They can also help you better understand the relationship of comfort vs. support of a mattress. A 3" Talalay Plush layer vs a 3" Medium layer would add more softness to the “comfort” feel of the mattress, as well as more pressure relief for your body (I’m guessing that you are a side sleeper as you briefly mention hip sink above). After you’ve had time to answer the above questions I have for you, I can better understand what’s going on with your comfort layers. Thanks in advance… .

Thank you for the kind welcome.
Sad to say that my previous mattress was 21 years old… can’t remember what it was… it was the kind of mattress that when my ex husband was lying close to me my body would angle towards him… I’ never liked the bed. Over the years I added the 2" latex which didn’t quite do enough so I added a generic mattress topper which improved my night time experience a bit. The last few months of owning that mattress, I would sleep on the mattresses edges.
I bought the eco sleep because it was less monies than some of the multi layer latex mattresses.
I told Ken that I had a 2" soft Dunlop at home and he said that they could make the mattress cover big enough to accommodate it. So with that in mind he suggested the medium. If I had extra cash I’d definitely purchase the 3" plush talalay as a topper.
We’re you saying that the plush would be comfort and supportive with or without the medium layer?
I’m thinking of ordering a one inch soft Dunbar layer… the 2" that I have and the new one would both be from Sleep on Latex.
Thank you for your help.

I’m thinking of ordering a one inch soft Dunbar layer… the 2" that I have and the new one would both be from Sleep on Latex. If that doesn’t work, then I should still have time to exchange the talalay medium layer for the Talalay plush (where I’d put the 2" soft layer underneath it).
I’m a side sleeper but primarily a back sleeper…, my hips sink slightly but my shoulders stay on surface… I think my muscles tighten due to the not feeling relaxed. I end up changing positions a few times to fall asleep. And again through out the night.
Thoughts? And thank you for your help Sensei.

Your Eco Sleep Hybrid Mattress should have a single 3" latex layer and then 6" QE Bolsa coil springs underneath. That should be a good setup for you but you may need more foam on top to give you that sinking yet supportive feel you’re looking for. In most cases I would suggest a 6" comfort/support layer over the coils unless you like a firm mattress or sleep on your stomach (obviously not the case here). Most mattress covers will accommodate at least an inch more than they are supposed to (sometimes more if they are stretch knit tops). I also don’t suggest using foam layers thinner than 2" unless the foam is being used at the very bottom of the mattress under the coils. In your case and given what you have already I would ask to swap out your 3" of 28ILD talalay for the 19ILD talalay and then put your 2" soft dunlop layer underneath it. That setup should give you more travel (sinking feeling) into the mattress and the talalay will feel supportive while still conforming given your body weight/shape and sleeping position. If you find that’s too conforming then you can also swap out the 2" soft dunlop for a medium instead to firm up the mattress support a bit more.
Thank you. I appreciate your time helping. I tried another 1" soft Dunlop adding to the already owned 2" Dunlop on top of the Medium talalay. Over the 6" coils. Better but still not good enough.
I placed the two inch Dunlop underneath the medium talalay layer. I kept the cover peeled back and layer on latex layer. It felt plusher. I believe that the issue in part is the wool/bamboo layer.
Thinking of returning the 3" medium talalay for a 2" medium talalay and 2" soft talalay. I’m afraid the 3" soft talalay will be too soft. Tried calling Ken a couple of times to run this by him but have yet to hear back.
Thanks again.
