Talalay Latex Mattress Numbers Printed on Mattress

Hi,
I purchased a mattress, the two numbers were on the bottom core of the mattress. The bottom core of the mattress were split into 2 pieces and had these numbers on the mattresses. It is a Talalay latex mattress. Could you please tell me what these numbers mean? I was wondering if the two pieces of the core are the same ild numbers or if one was softer than the other? Are the 19 and 28 imprinted on the mattress the ild numbers? What does the 40" TLB stand for? Any help you could give to me would be so appreciated! Thank you!

Hi Gwen25,

Welcome to the Mattress Forum!

That’s an excellent question and it pops up every so often, so this gives me a chance to address it again – thank you!

The 6-801-28 and the 607-07 are simply mold identification numbers from the factory. This is essential for quality control and identification in fabrication. The 40" refers to the width of the mold. This would be one of the newer Talalay molds (the older versions were 39" wide), and it gives just a bit of extra “leeway” for fabricators to cut their widths very specifically.

The number has nothing to do with ILD, as that is determined by the formulation, amount of latex poured into the mold, and the state of cure when the latex is removed from the mold. Sometimes you may receive a piece of latex and on the end you may see part of a paper sticker that denotes the ILD of the core and the testing it went through and the ILDs found in the different zones during testing (Talalay Global tests in 9 spots and the ILD must be within a specified range to pass).

The TLB is a carry-over term for twin extra long, called “Twin Long Boy”. This mold would have been 40" x 80" x 6". There are also some queen Talalay molds that are 60" x 80" x 6".

If your core is over 6", these two layers may be laminated together to achieve that height, which would not impact performance.

I hope that information is helpful to you.
